Thank you!

Not to sound rude, but in the eyes of these schools, you’re the stereotypical Asian/Indian applicant… With that, I say that Dartmouth, and especially Brown and Harvard, are looking pretty unlikely. In at USC and UCLA, and UCB. Decent chances at Stanford as you’re a California resident. Decent chances at Caltech as well. Make your essays unique and your chances go up, especially for the Ivy League schools.

I understand that, which is why I’m scared. Right now I’m just hoping that they take into consideration that my school isn’t the best ever. The others who have gotten accepted from my school have not had great stats/ECs either.

Thank you, and do you have any suggestions for smaller private schools?

In California, there’s always Pomona, the highly, HIGHLY selective LAC. And there’s Pepperdine, as a safety. UCSD is also amazing for political science! As for elsewhere, if you like Brown, check out Amherst and Swarthmore (also HIGHLY selective LACs), Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Princeton, Northwestern, UChicago, NYU, Columbia, Cornell, and WUSTL. This is off the top of my head, sorry for the scarcity of schools.

I’d look into Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, and a few other small LACs … Also, Columbia has a great program! Your grades, SATs, and ECs look strong, but you never know! If you don’t get in, it won’t be your grades! Good luck!

You’re probably in for all the UCs. I can’t really comment on the other ones.

Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Claermont Mckenna are some privates that I can see you getting in to. I am sure you have already heard of/considered them.

Good luck :)

Okay, thanks, I’ll definitely look into those :).

Another question, should I retake the SAT? Or just send in my ACT score?

Just send your ACT.

Don’t worry about getting into UCB/UCLA/USC.
Rest are hard to predict.
What’s the point of saying <200k? Just sayin’, haha.

Okay, thank you :).

Haha, thanks. I said that to show that I wasn’t poor. But I’m not extremely rich either. I actually think I’m closer to <150k though.

I’m thinking of applying to Stanford REA, is this a good idea? (Do I have a decent chance at getting in, or should I apply EA to a few, less selective, schools). Thanks.

Won’t you have seriously discounted-- or free-- tuition at caltech because of your parents? For that reason alone caltech should be first on your list. You can’t beat the education or the prestige for that price.

I would, but I don’t really want to go.

I’m not interested in Math/Science that much, and Caltech is pretty much that. Not only that, I live close by, and I would rather leave my parents, at least for a while.

Of course you’ll get in there, then. But do you even need bother apply if you don’t want to go there?

As for school “suggestions,” I think you should do your own research… Not trying to be a jerk but you should take more interest than that.

Your ACT is good, your SAT 2’s are too, but your SAT is low, so I’d recommend not sending that, although I’m not sure.

Your EC’s are fairly weak; you do have a chance though.

My parents are making me apply. I was just wondering about my chances.

Doesn’t asking educated people count as research…? Obviously I’m not going to just rely on people’s opinions, but they can help me.

I won’t send my SAT then, I guess. And is there anything I can do about my ECs before the deadline? I guess the only thing I have control over at this point are my essays, right?

Thank you.

might look at holy cross-very good lac near boston.

Okay, thanks. I’ll look into that one :).

Hi, so because of various reasons, I’ve decided to not apply REA to Stanford, instead I’ll just apply during Regular Decision.

At this point, should I bother applying EA to another school? Or should I just wait for the regular admissions cycle? I would have ~10 days to complete a supplement. In terms of applying EA to get a safety, I feel fairly confident in the UCs as my safeties- I’ll also apply to Irvine/SB/SD to be safe.

Thank you.

Another bump, to update my college list:

Applied already to Cal, UCLA, Irvine and SD.
Applying today to USC.
Going to apply to : Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, UChicago, Caltech, and Georgetown.

Chances? Thank you.

I ended up applying to all those schools except Caltech, and a few days ago got nominated for the presidential scholarship at USC (my first acceptance!) Thank you everyone :).
