What is an academic experience, project, class or book that has influenced or inspired you?

I am writing about a community service club I formed at my school and how it has inspired me and blah blah. I would consider that a project. Any feedbacks on this topic?? Should I find a different topic?? I am confused =S any help would be appreciated!

oh crap..why did that word "academic" escape my eyes?? i wrote my essay about a leadership forum i attended. true, it's not strictly "academic", but the program's main point was to actually teach its participants about the legislative system...in that sense, could my essay work?
[i already sent the app in btw o_O]

The one on the community service club seems off-topic -- but that's my opinion, and I'm not an ad com. To me, the adjective "academic" would rule out community service as a topic.

I used a column I'd written about my weird religious upbringing, strained to tie it into a Bible as Literature class I'm taking this year, and got in.

If it moves you and you can write well about it, go for it. Brown likes kids who take academic risks. Writing an impassioned but risky essay could very well get you in.

it's a little too late for this now but when I did my essay I interpreted academic to mean having to do with school... so any class taken or independant work with a faculty member would fit. community service, summer programs or any other extra curricular doesnt seem to me to be academic, but only an adcom could really tell you..
(i wrote about photography classes i've taken at school and how they opened me to a new method of self expression)
