Hello, I am currently rising sophomore in Berkeley taking summer session. I am trying to transfer to Brown as a junior next year, but I am not sure if my chances are good. I took 10 APs (6 5s and 4 4s) and got a 2200 on the SAT (like 4 years ago, since I joined the military - UN mission in Africa - right after my freshman year). I got 3.86 for the freshman semester (total of 8 courses), but with 4 passing grades (apparently Cal allows this). My questions are:
- Do I need to re-take the SAT?
- How are my chances for the transfer admission next year? Do I have any?
Thanks!

I wouldn’t re-take.

They seem good, but it is tough to say given the marginal acceptance rate for transfers. See this:

Then go to “What makes a good transfer applicant?” You’ll see the most recent statistics and median SAT/GPA scores of admitted transfer students.
Your military experience will certainly help. Try to incorporate it well in your application. The clincher, however, will come down to your need for financial aid. Brown is need-aware for transfers, and quite often waitlists or denies those who need significant aid. Your best bet is to apply without requesting financial aid, only if you can afford it. But if you need aid, I’d say it honestly isn’t worth your time.
You also need to sell yourself and give a pretty good reason as to why you’re transferring, especially from a place like Cal.
