Starting in the 2005-06 school year, undergraduate students will be charged $41,770, a 4.9 percent increase over this year. For the current year, Brown ranks fourth among its Ivy peers, with Columbia, Cornell and Harvard charging more. Rankings for 2006 were unavailable.

To help students pay for the tuition increase, the corporation approved a 9 percent increase in the university's financial aid budget, allowing an additional $3.77 million to be given to needy students. An extra $400,000 was set aside for financial aid for transfer students.

in terms of an ivy league education, that's going to be how much it will cost no matter where you go. Brown is pretty much right in the middle, not the most expensive, nor the cheapest Ivy.

and for the record it was a 4.9% increase in tuition AND fees

Given the 5.2% figure, that means tuition was $39,638 last year. So I wouldn't worry -- I think we'd all have noticed had tuition been that high in the past.
