BROWN tuition jumps 5.2% to $41,700 for next year

Joins others in busting through the “$40,000 barrier.”

From today's Boston Globe:

Starting in the 2005-06 school year, undergraduate students will be charged $41,770, a 4.9 percent increase over this year. For the current year, Brown ranks fourth among its Ivy peers, with Columbia, Cornell and Harvard charging more. Rankings for 2006 were unavailable.

To help students pay for the tuition increase, the corporation approved a 9 percent increase in the university's financial aid budget, allowing an additional $3.77 million to be given to needy students. An extra $400,000 was set aside for financial aid for transfer students.

Tuition is NOT going to be $41,700! Right?! Don't scare people! $41,700 is comprehensive and includes room and board, I believe?

yes, i think it does

once you break 40000 its all the same until you reach 45000. and its all waaaaaaaay too expensive

Well, I guess my parents are going to have to move into a shack to pay for my education.

mine too. and i'll be living in a house of mud and sticks until I'm 130 years old and my loans are finally paid off. lol

At least you'll have that Brown diploma hanging in your mudshack.

And then you'll think, "Was it worth it?" and then you'll remember that's where you met me :P

a lot of people, myself included, would live in a mudshack to meet you ;)

hahaha, i second that :p

Oh my gosh, that's insane. I'm so not going there. I'm doing the summer program and it costs $2600 without room and board.

in terms of an ivy league education, that's going to be how much it will cost no matter where you go. Brown is pretty much right in the middle, not the most expensive, nor the cheapest Ivy.

and for the record it was a 4.9% increase in tuition AND fees

By the time our children are applying to college, it'll cost $100,000 a year or something equally outrageous hehe:p

That's why I'm so not having kids I don't think.

Given the 5.2% figure, that means tuition was $39,638 last year. So I wouldn't worry -- I think we'd all have noticed had tuition been that high in the past.

What's the most expensive college. I remember Stanford was like $45K I think, not sure though.
