@fenwaypark, we received the legacy letter after both my sons applied. The letter was identical and came with a profile of the previously admitted class.
I think the letter is worded, couched, expressed very professionally, @RenaissanceMom.
It acknowledges that the Office of Admission knows that the applicant is the child of an alum. It does not raise false or unjustified expectations. If anything, it dampens possible irrational exuberance on the part of legacy families by way of the sobering numbers that inevitably show up on the attached profile you mentioned.
It is a nice courtesy to alums. That by itself is a lot, but it is nothing more.
I think.
@Hawkace and @lavalamp97 if you guys like friends, then you might also like a show called Happy Endings, every episode of this show had me rolling on the floor. It’s like friends, except it takes place in Chicago.
@tkdgirl98 a cursory search of the brown forum produced this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1461303-brown-likely-letters-2017.html. So yea they do and I would say any time between now snd March 15th would be a good guess
I got an interview offer today. but the interviewer said that I just need to fill in an interview form and submit it by next week. (I am an international living outside U.S.) is it normal or a particular sign for rejection or acceptance?
@fenwaypark: I thought the same.
@Anduar3
I never heard of that show. Is it on Nerflix? If it is, it sounds like my series to marathon.
@aliefmoulana, the interviewee filling out the form - I’ve never heard of that, it doesn’t sound like standard procedure. Getting an interview is not an indication of acceptance or rejection they try to interview as many applicants as possible. The deadline for interviews was Feb 15th ( although as we’ve seen from this thread, they have conducted more beyond this date), I’m not exactly sure what you having to fill out an interview form means!!
@fizzy110 so there are several question commonly asked in regular interviews. it’s basically just like writing another essay, but in more informal tone I guess. I’m aware that most colleges try to interview as many applicants as possible, but, for applicants from countries with limited interviewers, some colleges, like Harvard, only conduct interview to some selected students. I don’t know if Brown does the same though.
@Anduar3 Thanks, I’ll definitely look into that show.
So Brown is definitely the 31st? And it’s only a portal decision?
@aliefmoulana I noticed my Brown interviewer had a sheet with prepared questions on it, but I don’t think I was supposed to see it - perhaps because you can’t do an in person interview they have resorted to this instead. I am also an international, but from what I’ve understood Brown attempts to interview as many applicants as possible irrespective of the applicant’s likelihood for admission. Many people who don’t get interviews get accepted - you can find several anecdotes of this on CC. But good luck with your interview/essay
Hi Everyone. I have a question. I want to send additional information to be added to my application. I tried to send this to the admissions email, however they requested that I upload them to my brown account.
I happen to be incredibly un-techy and I cannot figure out where to upload this. When I log into my brown account, I have only 3 options: Look at profile, change password, change security question. Where can I upload my supplement information???
On the website it says “If you choose to send us additional materials, we prefer that you upload supplementary materials to your file once you receive your Brown account username.” Is there something wrong with the website or is it just me who is struggling? I don’t want to email the university asking them to clarify if the answer is obvious. Please help a girl out!
@arigatogirl Once you have your username and password, you’re supposed to login in to self-service on Brown.
Here’s the link: https://selfservice.brown.edu/ss/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=bmenu.P_MainMnu
What kind of additional information can be uploaded onto the portal anyway? A resumé, perhaps?
@TanTheeeta Do not put a resume in the additional information. Admission officers hate that.
@Hawkace and how do you know that?
@Hawkace Ahh, okay… So if I have, say, a short writing piece, would that be okay to upload? And if not, what additional information, like I asked earlier? Brown is freaking amazing, I don’t want to hurt my chances
@justinn76
I have spent quite some time on this site, and I know my in and outs, which can be proven by my post count. Plus I asked several admission officers and they voiced the same opinion.
@TanTheeeta
A short writing piece could be uploaded, but only upload it if it could help your application. If it’s a random piece of writing, I would say no. Additional information is mostly used for updates after you submitted the application or other information that could help the admission committee understand you better. Don’t submit trivial things and don’t submit repeated information such as a resume.
can someone remind me when does decision come out?
@Hawkace Thanks very much!!
