I’ve been accepted into the English programs at Brown, UPenn, and NU, and have no idea where to go. In terms of the best English department and liberal arts experience in general, what should be my top choice? Thx
Law school is almost all about GPA+LSAT. As Brown has the highest mean GPA’s in the nation, that school is a no-brainer for a law wannabe, assuming you like its culture/environment and the costs are comparable.
Look at number and proportion of students going to law school (and which ones, if possible) from each college. Look at the pre-law advising departments and even reach out to them.
@bluebayou Many on CC cite grade inflation at Brown, which I don’t disbelieve. But I hadn’t heard it has the highest mean GPA in the nation—do you have a source for that?
Given that you have only been a prospective English major for 13 minutes (since you were a polisci person before), and given that none of those schools admit “into” the English programs, I’m thinking that this isn’t the best metric for picking between them.
Have you visited any / all of them?
Are they cost equivalent for you?
When you wrote you “why I want to go to your school” essay, which one was the truest to you?
I’ve been accepted into the Brown, UPenn, and NU and want to major in poli sci fro undergrad. Which school for undergrad gets students into the best law schools? Thx
Brown, Yale and Pomona are the most generous three. Of course, what really helps Brown is the P/F option. Have a difficult course this term? Take it P/F and only have to aim for a ‘Gentlemen’s C’ to pass. (Of course, the Ivies now have a Gentlemen’s B-…)
English or political science?
Brown is likely the best bet here - it has a very strong liberal arts foundation, not to mention the happy student body and high quality of life!
