Brown vs. Boston Univ

I would appreciate advice regarding a decision between these two schools.

Um...that's quite simple. One is an amazing university. The other is an average, normal, relatively sub-standard school.

Thanks. From everything I've heard Brown is an amazing university. Also, I've heard that they have a strong focus on the undergrads, which is good.

Brown all the way...

don't think these people are being biased just cause you're in a Brown thread because Brown is way way better than BU

It all depends on what kind of school you want - a Boston U degree is just as good as a Brown degree. If you want big and urban, BU is great. If you want a more indie, small city feel, it's Brown. They're different, but "sub-standard" is an extremely ignorant way to describe BU, which is one of the best institutions in the country. Yes, it's less selective, but who applies to a school just because it's more selective? Come on.

I applied early to Brown and was deferred. I just got into BU.

Brown > BU ALL THE WAY.
I don't think there is much competition there. I don't mean to sound arrogant.

^^^lol, why would that make you sound arrogant? you didn't found the school or anything :D

Wow,

sure - Brown is superior on two standards (MAYBE) : academics, and research. This isn't to say that certain students at BU aren't JUST AS SMART with JUST AS MUCH potential as Brown students. College, especially undergraduate, is what you make of it.

The arrogance on CC blows me away sometimes. Good luck to all of you applying to Brown OR BU - because both are fantastic institutions.

Barnard '12

You have to also understand that BU also has an accelerated medical program that is probably as competitive, if not harder, to get into as Brown undergrad. The students in this program are likely as intelligent as the top students in Brown. Personally, I would much prefer going to this accelerated medical program as opposed to regular Brown undergrad if medicine was the way you wanted to go.

you're talking apples and oranges. both fruits are nice, but they are VERY different and can only be contrasted. they are not typically considered by the same person, as their requirements are extremely different.
