I would appreciate your opinions regarding Boston University and Brown. I know that Brown is usually higher ranked and more prestegious. However, is Brown really a better school? If so, why?

Thanks for your input.

Two words: Open curriculum.

At Brown, you're only "required" to take the classes for your major (and enough credits to graduate). BU has requirements.

Plus, Brown is going to be more undergrad focused...

I agree with New.

I'd add that Boston U feels less cohesive, and the campus is definitely a part of the city. Brown is in Providence, but once on campus it feels like a community.

I grew up on the campus of Boston U where my Mom was doing her doctorate, so I just wanted to add that the campus being part of the city is very much a plus. Everything's within reach, you're not inside a "bubble", and you can hang out at MIT if you wish.

Seriously though, they're both great schools. :)
