Also, do any of you know if Brown will offer any waitlisted students a space in next years class? I’ve seen its a common trend among other universities, and in the Brown '13 waitlist thread some students were admitted to the class of 2014?
Has anyone received their decision, including a rejection, during the last two weeks?
I haven’t received an official decision about the waitlist either although I did email my admission officer and they said the waitlist is still ongoing but then again they might be yanking my chain.
Nothing @Hamshank
Heard that they haven’t closed the waiting list yet but expect to do so shortly.
‘we will be releasing decisions through mid-june’… it’s technically mid June tomorrow?
I am honestly confused on how not even rejection letters have been sent out bc looking at the past two years rejection letters or people being released from the waitlist were usually sent around the beginning of June.
I guess that means they are still considering people to accept?
Until a school announces that it has closed its WL, there is a chance they will use it. Remember that Brown may be full today, but if another institution is still making WL offers and students who have deposited at Brown take them, Brown might end up having a few openings. Last year, there were kids getting WL offers at schools in early July. At some schools, the number of juniors electing to study abroad can affect available housing and hence freshman acceptances.
WL is NOT a deferral to a fixed date. At this point, assume you will not get that call and move on with your plans at the school where you have deposited. If Brown offers you a place, you can deal with the option then.
Has anyone actually received a formal rejection yet? Or has anyone received an acceptance since the last wave? I’ve accepted the fact that I’m not going to Brown now, but would just like some closure…
@ezzy98 Same.
has anyone heard anything?
@ezzy98 @PinkQuetzal9 @ScaredofSchool nothing here either, and daughter checked the portal too: no change. Getting excited about the school she has accepted though.
Okay guys, I have official info… I have received a response upon my mail concerning the waitlist.
The wait list is over, and the admissions officers told me that we all should be receiving our responses via mail by June 30th.
I felt that this mail is a rejection to me. I guess it’s the same for everyone?
@BrKmNk did you get this by email or post?
if we call up would that be bad, appearing like a pest… better not to call?
@ScaredofSchool by mail, here’s what they sent me as response:
Dear Berk,
We have completed our wait list process. Students who were placed on our wait list will receive a letter in the mail by June 30.
You tell me what it means
Called the admissions office. Asked them to confirm and was told the same – that students would receive a letter by the end of June. Thought it was rather incredible that she would not confirm when I am pretty sure they have mailed or at least prepared the letters. Ready for the stringing along to end.
For the past three months, I eagerly awaited news from Brown like many of you. I was not accepted into any of my top colleges; in fact, I was only accepted into one. I will not doubt my accomplishments, but I guess certain grades of mine were not good enough. It was very difficult for me to deal with rejection since I spent four years of my high school career working towards this. I am not happy with my current school. The admissions officer I sent my multiple letters of continued interest to always said he/she would inform me of any updates, but failed to do so. He/she failed to directly respond to any of my messages. Although I am sure the office receives a plethora of letters from students, this should be taken seriously. I received one sentence responses from the overall office, often the same words. It is beyond mentally distressing to hang on a thread without any formal news whatsoever. In the past, I have suffered from minor clinical depression, so you can only imagine how adversely this all affected me. I know that this is not the end of the world and I am certain everyone here will go far in life and I hope for the best. However, to dismiss student concerns so lightly and to give no updates on anything is harrowing. It is a shameful process that needs to be amended. I feel foolish and embarrassed for desperately reaching out when no one was truly paying attention. Some people on this thread sent no letters of interest, but were accepted. They claimed region was not an issue when I emailed, yet several people from certain states were accepted. I only wish that someone out there could have been a little more honest or straightforward with me. It would have saved me extreme anxiety and heartache. We all suffer as human beings and small things like this only break the bigger picture.
@truth204 after reading your message, I’m in tears. I feel every word of your message. This past several months have been hell for me. My daughter is on the same boat. She is a top student in her class of 400 students. 4.0/4.54 GPA, full IB student, 2360 SAT and 35 ACT. National Merit Scholarships finalist. Concertmaster and Soloist in her youth orchestra and numerous honors and awards in music and twice been on the National Synchronized Swimming Team. Interned and volunteered in local hospitals and volunteered to teach violin to younger kids. I just can’t think of anything that she’s lacking. Other than the LOCI, her music director also wrote a recommendation letter highly appraised her leading ship and musicianship. We’ve done anything we could and still the result is dissapointing.
@pdxtigermom Your daughter is extremely impressive, I’m surprised she wasn’t accepted. Where will she go if brown waitlist doesn’t work out?
