Waitlist statistics

Does anybody know what the percentage of total waitlisted people get off the waitlist in recent years?

Any other statistics relating to waitlisted applicants would also be helpful to me.

I ask this because some school’s are traditionally bigger waitlist users than others.

They sent info to the waitlistees saying on average 500 are on the active waitlist and about 50 get in on every year.

is preference given to more qualified candidates? Or are people taken off the waitlist in a random manner?

i'm pretty sure they re-evaluate each waitlisted applicant and reject them as they see fit.

I can assure you it's not random. I agree with Adamo

does anyone know if they try to make the accepted waitlisters match some of the people who didnt show. Like do I have to hope that a bunch of people interested in my major dont go in order for me to have a good shot?

If a department were to need a cello player or a goalie I know that they would probably try to match from the waitlist. On the major I am not sure of that.

I would assume they prioritize the waitlist. That way, as stated above, they can actually shape the class with the skills needed to make it well rounded and all that good stuff. Time to pick up the oboe, guys. (Joking)

Last year it was 50 cry but the year before it was more like 150

150 would be amazing. I am so hoping that it is somewhere around 300 this year.

I wouldnt get your hopes up, Brown was telling my guidance counselor they were worried they may have "overbooked" the class of 09.

300? You're dreamin babe.

Does overbooking the class of 09 have any affect on transfer admissions for the class of 08?

It shouldn't have any affect on transfer applications for the class of 08. It will, however, mean that less students will be accepted for transfers into ther class of 09 next year and the year after.

I know they won't admit 300, I was kidding. It would be nice if they did, but I agknowledge that the likelyhood of that happening is near impossible.

Lauren: I was sayin that in good fun :)

Has anybody else heard if there is any foundation to these rumors of the class of '09 being "overbooked"?

Don't think they'll be able to know that for sure until May 1, when everyone has replied.

They won't overbook unless they substantially exceed the projected 46.3% RD yield, and I think this is unlikely.
