I will give you the same advice I gave my son, who is also on Brown’s waitlist. Do what you’re supposed to do to accept your spot and supplement your initial application and then proceed as if it is off the table as an option. The last two years they have not accepted anybody off of the waitlist. The year before that it was like 32 people. You can’t keep thinking “what if?”. Take a good hard look at the schools where you are accepted and figure out which is the best one for you. If the miraculous happens and you get off of a waitlist (anywhere!), then figure out how to proceed. But otherwise, just pick from your current offers and take advantage of every opportunity that school has to offer and think about potentially transferring to Brown or going to grad school there.

Are there any numbers of how many student are on the wait list this year or previous years?

They predict 400-500 on the waitlist and accepted 0-75 from that pool.

Please post if you receive letters, emails or anything related to the waitlist! May 1 approaches!! Let’s hope for the best! :D

Wow, a lot of students are going to Brown this year. Does it look like another no waitlist admission year? :(

Did anyone receive an email today?? I received an email about my spot on the waitlist! :)

^ Yea. How do you know “a lot of students are going to Brown this year”?

@madd06 I just guessed because most of the students that have been accepted (those who are on CC) have decided to go, and well it’s just my guess. I hope I am completely wrong!!

Hey I’m going to visit Brown for the first time next week! Since I was waitlisted, what should I do? Should I take this opportunity and do something else? Please I want to go to Brown! :)

@astrogirl Oh - I see. I was actually planning on flying to Brown to visit in hopes of possibly speaking with someone at admissions; however, my high school counselor called Brown and they apparently don’t consider “demonstrated interest”.

astrogirl, why on earth are you visiting Brown now? You need to be visiting the college you will be attending next year, not a school that you’ve been waitlisted for. You’re setting yourself up for heartbreak.

@fireandrain I am not like most who had the resources to visit colleges before applying. I come from a low income family, and it’s my first time visiting Brown. I already committed to another college of course, which I’m extremely happy to go to. Even though I will be visiting colleges that waitlisted me, it doesn’t mean I will lose my time visiting. There is graduate school, so I will be visiting knowing that it is really hard getting in, but knowing there is still hope for those of us who didn’t have the opportunity to get accepted.

They do, but visiting the campus doesn’t really count as demonstrated interest

Surprisingly, per Brown’s most recent common data set the level of applicant’s interest is NOT considered in the admissions decision.

@astrogirl, I agree with fireandrain. Your showing up on their doorstep will be met with a polite but glib brushoff. Even if you had a remarkable story to convince them, they wouldn’t likely meet with you because that would be setting a terrible precedent. It would only encourage 100s of other face-to-face pleaders to come knocking on their doors in May. They’d be idiots to spend any time with you. You must understand it from their perspective.

I am just going on a tour to see Brown. I don’t want to meet with admissions people. I totally understand everything you said. I never said I was going to meet with them. I just asked if there was something I could do besides the tour, but apparently there isn’t. Thank you for clearing that up! No need to categorize me as a pleader, I’m just hopeful that something good happens. I was just asking… @T26E4
I just want to see Brown for the first time. :(

Sorry I was unduly harsh. I fully sympathize. Just like the “lottery” aura of RD choices, the reality is it’s even worse for WL people. One thing I do know about you: the fact that Brown offered you a WL spot means you’re 99.8% destined to have a wonderful and successful collegiate career. So what if it’s not Brown? The Earth hasn’t tilted off its rotation. You’ll do absolutely fine. Best of luck to you

astrogirl, I just answered another student on this forum who wanted to know what else to do when visiting Brown, so a quick search should answer your question (not to mention that it’s been asked and answered on this forum numerous times). It’s fine if you want to visit, as a tourist.

Who thinks this will be another no-waitlist-acceptance year, and why? Or why the opposite?
