<p>I’ve been waitlisted at Brown, but I don’t know if I should even pursue it anymore. I’ve already committed to Cornell but it’s mentally exhausting to not know where I’ll be next year. I don’t want to prepare myself for Cornell only to switch my gears or to hope for something that turns out to be a rejection… Does anyone know around what time the decisions are made for waitlist?</p>

<p>Everyone who is on the wait list is in the same boat…hang in there. If you are already emotionally committed to Cornell and just want to end this crazy process, it is completely understandable if you decide to remove yourself from wait list consideration.</p>
<p>You already have a wonderful option and you should be excited about it!</p>
<p>If, on the other hand, you will always wonder “what if…” and really think that Brown is the right fit for you academically, socially and financially, you may want to see what happens. </p>
<p>As you know, chances are great that you will be attending Cornell in the fall as it is very difficult to get off the wait list. Get excited about Cornell and keep Brown in the back of your mind until you get some concrete information one way or the other.</p>

<p>Wait list decisions come out between mid-May and the end of June…or sometimes, they end at the end of the summer (in August) 
You can remove yourself from the wait list if you’d like! Cornell is great!</p>
<p>Based on history, your odds of getting off the wait list are slim - very slim. I’d suggest you move on and focus on going to Cornell - it’s a great school and depending on your major superior to Brown in many areas.</p>

<p>^ Brown’s CS program for undergrads is actually pretty legit. Arguably just as good (or maybe even better than) Cornell’s.</p>

<p>we’re splitting hairs here but i’ll give you engineering while Undergrad CS is def Brown and I would say undergrad bio is Brown as well because Weill and Rockefeller are in NYC, not Ithaca. I honestly can’t comment on the other sciences but in general Brown is more UG focused than Cornell anyway. Graduate programs in those areas you are def spot on though.</p>

<p>Maybe - but Cornell is strong in those areas so I don’t think the OP should loss sleep over it. I think the OP needs to move on and focus on starting at Cornell rather than wallow in regret about Brown when it may not even be the better choice.</p>

<p>Brown May Accept Students from Waitlist for Class of 2017</p>
<p>Approximately 60 percent of the Universitys 2,649 admitted students have accepted their offers to join the class of 2017, wrote Dean of Admission Jim Miller 73 in an email to The Herald.
For the second year in a row, more students have committed to the University than expected, Miller wrote. Last year, 55.8 percent of admitted students committed to Brown, a six-year high. This years 60 percent yield rate is the Universitys highest since 1998, the first year for which such data is available from the Office of Institutional Research.
The University anticipated an incoming class of 1,515 students, or 57 percent of accepted students. Instead, about 1,589 have committed to Brown. The total number of students in the class of 2017 is not yet final because some students have secured extensions on the May 1 commitment deadline due to financial reasons, Miller wrote.
But the Admission Office expects the number of committed students to decrease as some may decide to take gap years or attend other universities to which they are admitted from waitlists, Miller wrote.
The Admission Office will likely admit only a handful of students off the waitlist this year, Miller wrote. No students on last years waitlist were offered admission.
This year is the first in a three-year process of implementing former President Ruth Simmons recommendations for reducing the number of admission spots for recruited athletes.
Following the Corporations approval of Simmons recommendations last year, the Admission Office was required to cut 20 spots reserved for recruited athletes from 225 to 205 within the subsequent three years, The Herald previously reported. Two hundred and sixteen recruits 10 fewer than last year were admitted, Miller wrote.</p>

<p>It looks like they most likely will not take any students off the wait list.</p>
<p>Are the “handful of kids” coming off of the wait list going to be offered admission this fall or just z listed?</p>
<p>Also, does anyone know whether they will use the waitlist or not? It scares me to think that last year’s yield was lower and they did not use the waitlist. Why did they say they would most likely be picking a handful of students then? Summer melt perhaps?</p>
<p>Sometimes there are a very few waitlisted students that meet a special criteria and they are added to the “over-enrollment”. Ie back up quarter back recruit, very influential corporation / $$ advocate steps in. IE for the rest of wait-listed students, do not hold your breath, start getting excited about the most likely excellent other school you have gotten into and are going to attend. Yes there is the very remotest possibility you might be asked if you are still interested in the middle of summer, (my student had someone on the freshman hall who backed out the week before school due to finances, and the “replacement” actually was asked that week while packing for a different college!) but this is very, very rare. Instead, freshmen, be prepared for the possibility of some “temporary” triples! (almost always sorted into doubles by second semester.)</p>

<p>There are many reasons for waitlist and as some people very familiar are noting, it’s time to weigh other options. You can look at what Brown says about waitlist on its website. </p>
<p>If you search my name and waitlist I have a thread from 2007 (I think) where I outline everything I did. I’ve referenced it and talked about it in several years past. I’d link you myself but I’m on my phone.</p>
<p>I’m on four waitlists (Williams, Amherst, Brown, and Northwestern) but Brown is my first choice. Ugh I hate this state of limbo…</p>
