I just saw on the Duke and Columbia threads that people have been already taken off the wait-list? Doesn’t this defeat the whole purpose of waitlist? How can they decide whom to admit if they haven’t received a response from all those admitted initially?
Also, doesn’t the Brown letter explicitly mention that in no case will they make a decision before May 15? Is Brown different? What’s happening???

I spoke to an admissions officer at columbia who told me that they would not address the waitlist until may 15th

Really? That's a contradiction.
Anyway, do you know when the adcoms sit to review the waitlist applications?
Thanks

where did you see it on the columbia thread that they were taken off the waitlist?

I called Columbia to see what my son needed to do to remove his name from the waitlist.

Sigh. I dream of getting off of the Brown waitlist. So far my college admissions process has been painful, but I do have other good choices. I just pray, pray for that phone call telling me I'm in. Of course I'm going out of the country for three weeks, but it may come after that. I don't know. I'm not sure why I feel this way, but I just do.

i got my package last year on may 17th.

so - iwannabe_Brown - you got a package on the 17th with no previous communication that you were going to get in? ie: no phone call etc.

correct. I had sent in a letter and stuff, and heard like right after i got waitlisted (i.e. like April 5th) that I had a good shot, but I never heard any definitive positive info untill that package.

iwannabe_Brown...you 'heard that you had a good shot'? in what manner?

Yes, I want to know the same thing as above.

my guidance counselor called the regional rep, and she told him, "Do not let him give up on Brown"
