Brown's Comp Sci essay is ridiculuous!

Guys, I need help; Brown's application has this as a secondary essay.

4.Answer the appropriate question(s) in your intended major.
Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physics:
What concept in your anticipated major were you most proud of mastering?

I'd like to major in computer science but I haven't really done anything spectacular; I've done a little hardware work, and began learning C++, but I haven't mastered anything. What am I supposed to say!? This is a 500 word essay!

I really need help with this! Any ideas!?

Talk about the theory behind computer programming. Or like mastering the fact that there exist infinite problems that can be better solved through computers than through hand calculation. This would allow you to bring in any subject or even anything that you have done throughout your career. I agree, this question is weird. There may be like 100 or less highschoolers in the country who have mastered a language. One is at my school, and he mastered Qbasic. School chat program, written in an hour, along with lots of games.

That's a really easy essay.

If you can't answer that in just 500 words (That's like 1/2 page typed), then I think you should look at a different major.

Just say what made you most proud of yourself after you did it. I don't think they expect you to have created your own programming language or something......

BTW - QBasic is an easy language and I guess it matters what you mean by "mastered"

By mastered I mean that he could beat every teacher at my school who went to college and learned Qbasic. He could write any game that someone asked him to write. He wrote an instant messenging/chat program where you could talk to one person or a group of people. He had been doing it since he was 5 and his mother was a program. By master I mean the ability to accomplish every task asked of a person.
I guess that you could master a sort method, most of those are pretty easy. But then to really master it, I would think that you would of had to find all ways to improve it while staying true to its basic was of sorting.
I have done all of the programs, but I dont think that I have really mastered anything. I can do the fish case study, I could probably write all of it, but I dont think that it is mastered.
This essay is easy if you just say something that you have done, but not if you really answer the question.

"By master I mean the ability to accomplish every task asked of a person."
I doubt you could make Warcraft III with QBasic.

I bet he could. Of course there would be graphics limitations and probably it would have to be a downsized map because Qbasic cant handle everything, but it could be the same.

The games that have been made in Qbasic, he could make. He also made some of his own. Everyone can be a wiseass, what have you done in your life?

Great, thanks for all the help; I think I'll base my essay on concepts within the basic structure of programming that I've mastered.

Tell 'em it was passing the Turing test.

Write it up completely straight.
