I’m currently filling out my application, and I’m confused as to what Brown is expecting for the question: “Where have you lived?” I understand how this relates to people who have moved a lot or for international students, but what does Brown expect from students like myself who have lived in one place for their entire lives? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe talk about some unique aspect of your community, or maybe describe your house? Try to see if you can be a little creative with it.

I’m not applying this year but similar to you, I have lived in the same town my whole life. I’d maybe write about how your town has impacted your life? Or you could reflect on the types of people in your town and how they’ve impacted you?

For example, I’ve grown up in a town with predominantly upper-middle class families so most people get cars right at 16, have everything they need and really don’t understand financial problems that many people have. A couple people in my history class were joking about the recession recently as if it weren’t a huge problem for some people. so I would probably write about how growing up in this town and unlike most, experiencing financial problems was somewhat of a struggle but at the same time helped me grow as a person and all that jazz :)

so yeah, something like that would maybe work! There’s no right/wrong answer, so don’t worry!

Please note that this a 300 character response or maybe 3 sentences! Maybe try a less literal approach.

I have lived in same place all my life so far. IMO, it is basically an informative question asking a detail about you. Don’t stress over it so much.

As for me, I just twisted and used a little humor for the last sentence of the answer.

Yes it’s relatively small…I wouldn’t fret too much over it.

As I told my DS, it’s not really a question about where you live as it is about how you answer that question. Think outside the box.

I’ve moved around a lot internationally. And writing both the city and the country I run out of characters. what do I do?

I’m an international student, who has lived in the same place his entire life and I’m finding it difficult.
