Brown Supplement

I read earlier in a previous thread that Brown cares about your essays a lot. Does this also apply to questions like
How did you find out about Brown? For example, from a person, publication, campus visit, etc.?

and

Tell us where you have lived-and for how long-since you were born; whether you’ve always lived in the same place, or perhaps in a variety of places.

These questions are really simple. Are we supposed to still display individualism? Or does that only apply to the more unique questions?

I would say yes. Even in the short responses try to stand out as much as you can.

You don’t need to try and stand out but you should try to demonstrate who you are every chance you get. If the person who reads your app doesn’t feel invested in you then you’re not going to get in.

If you start talking to someone at a party, chances are the first things you ask will be:

-How do you know the host?
-Where are you from?

Brown is trying to get to know you.

I agree with mmmgirl’s interpretation. Don’t stress about making yourself stand out too much in these questions. They are facts and not really anything you can change or make standout.

I personally have lived in the same house my entire life. However, when I applied I mentioned that I lived for 2 months in NYC one summer and lived for a month in a different country another summer.

Little things like that can give them more perspective about you (I also expanded on those two experiences in other essays).

Datboyjj, I answered those questions very simply and to the point, and I got accepted ED this year, so I think it’s fine to do it like that
