Bryant University EA 2017 Admission

My son just got in as well. I was surprised as he was deferred EA from UNH and UVM. Was the Scholarship amount on your acceptance letters? Nothing was listed on ours, hoping we missed something.

@Cheryl22 that is fantastic! $25,000 scholarship is awesome! Is your son a superstar? would you mind sharing his stats. My son basically had a 3.9wGPA and a 1330 new SAT. Was your son similar? I hope so. $25K would be great! Has your son contacted Coach Switzer about running? Bryant is D1 and my son would be one of the slow kids unfortunately. It would be nice to so a sport as it guarantees an instant friend circle.

So not until March for the FIN Aid number? I am not hopeful about aid. I think it is only the Merit aid that we will be getting.

@kcinnh Congrats to your son also. It must be in the letter because Cheryl22 had an amount. I have not had a chance to look at my son’s letter yet. He better come home soon!

@MassDad68 My son’s stats he says are 1400sat, weighted 4.2, top 10% class. (I read your message and he smiled and then he told me those stats.) He isn’t fast enough for D1, but he will definitely be running on his own. GOOD LUCK! I’m sure you will be getting great news very soon!

@kcinnh I feel like in the past one could calculate their chances of getting into a particular college, but these days there’s truly doesn’t seem to be rhyme nor reason as to how or who they choose. For example, many kids were deferred from Northeastern, but were admitted to BU. I decided early on to just allow our son to navigate on his own and be available if he needs help and then just hope!

@Cheryl22 lol. Say hello to your son. Have him look at the stats from various races that Bryant entered this fall and see how his times compare. My son runs a 17:11 5K. Not great but might get him in as there are actually a couple guys slightly slower. But that puts him at the end of the pack during the D1 meets. Not what he wants to be doing. Big shout out to your son! Great job buddy! You worked hard in HS and you should be proud.

@MassDaD68 Thank you! 17:11!! Our kids have a lot in common! My son’s best was 17:14! I absolutely LOVE running. I think our guys will stick with it for a lifetime! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for great news for you! I am really praying for fin aid. Good luck to everyone!

So the results are in. He got a deans scholarship for $20K and the honors college with 3.0 requirement. Not too bad. I wonder if the cut off for the trustee scholarship was a 1400. I think the SAT scores come into play quite a bit. is it 1440 needed for full tuition at U of Alabama?

Sent a pm back but not sure about u of Alabama except they have sent so much mail!!! Lol

My D was accepted as well! Congrats to everyone! It turns out that Bryant is one of her top choices. Unfortunately she will not be able to attend the Open House in April. She needs to find out if there will be other accepted student events to help with decision making.

Congrats to all on your Bryant acceptances! @MassDaD68 glad you finally heard! Congrats! Is your S thrilled? Will he be attending?

My S received packet in mail today from Bryant that laid out his Merit award and, in a separate letter, what appears to be the financial award. Did anyone else receive such a packet?

Yes, and he was thrilled, but nothing about fin aid. Was it enclosed with the packet? Congrats!

Yes, it was in a separate envelope that summarized both Merit- and Need-based award. BTW: For us, Need based was 100% loans, no grants. However, our Merit-based award was good so Bryant very much at top of list of options

Would you mind clarifying…it was in an envelope entirely separate from the sealed big gold envelope? Thanks!

Hello everyone,

We received two separate envelopes. The first one, a large gold package which had the Merit/scholarship money. Yesterday we received a FIN AID determination letter that told us to basically go pound sand. Hahah. Like every other college so far. My son was offered a $5,500 unsubsidized loan which they (and all colleges) consider “aid”. lol.

Not sure how it will all play out. Bryant is a good school but the cost is very high.

@MassDaD68 Sorry things at Bryant didn’t work out as you hoped. It may be worth a call to ask them to look at the package once again – let them know it is a top choice but with the current package it is not affordable in your opinion. If you have a more generous offer from another school (not sure if that is the case or not) that will bolster your argument. It is a long shot but may be worth a try. I don’t know about Bryant specifically but some colleges will take a second look and your S seems to be a very attractive candidate for the school.

@happy1 Yes. I am considering that. We are waiting for the last school to come in (should be mid April) and that is the offer I would take to them. Maybe things will open up as we get closer to the deadline as well. I have heard of instances when sweeter offers are send unsolicited. Very rare but it does indicate that colleges are open to offering more aid as the May deadline approaches. It does no hurt to ask.

Hey @MassDaD68 I think your son applied to another B school in MA too, but did he also apply to Umass Isenburg?
Isenburg is definitely cheaper than any of the 3 B schools in MA/RI and is a very good value for what it offers.

I would definitely try to ask for more from Bryant before taking it off the table. It can’t hurt, especially if your kid has other offers already. If he gets into the other B school in MA, I’d lean on sending him there anyways, very good access to internships in the area.
