I got in! Sorry for everyone who didn’t get good news, I hope you guys end up in the school you are meant to be in!
I didn’t apply EDII but I’ve been following this thread for a while now, since Bryn Mawr is my top choice. Seeing a lack of acceptances today worries me a bit, because I’m sure you’re all qualified and intelligent. I hope this isn’t an indication of an overly competitive applicant pool this year.
Main point is, I wish you guys good luck in decisions from other schools and/or in watching that deferral turn into an acceptance!
Deferred again…
I have a record number of deferrals and I can’t understand why. It really hurts because the BMC supplement is one of the best essays I’ve ever written. I can’t believe it couldn’t get me in.
I’m grasping for straws at this point but slightly hopeful that this is just the reverse of what happened at Johns Hopkins and we all actually got accepted. But in any case I think that those of us that got deferred should stay on and keep supporting and helping each other!
@bria11 honestly I was thinking the same thing. The phone rang twice last night and I was crossing my fingers it was BMC calling to tell me I’m actually in. But I guess all we can do at this point is stay in contact with them and hope.
My mom’s recommending I apply other places now… My list was just 5 colleges: William and Mary (deferred me ED1) and BMC (deferred me ED2) Gettysburg, and two safeties. I really don’t want to end up at either safety but I’m not sure what places to add. I can’t find anywhere I love as much.
I applied to ucla uc Irvine Rutgers UVermont Urichmond unewhampshire spelman uhartford American and the new school in Addition to Bryn mawr. I’ve been accepted to UVermont and Rutgers already but those are safeties so hopefully I get into Bryn mawr or another one
Congratulations to all who were accepted - I can’t wait to see you next year! (I wanna be your heller!!!)
For those who were deferred, don’t lost hope! Bryn Mawr is very holistic - I did not have a…settling transcript. I had good grades overall, but because of unusual circumstances, two years of coursework did not even count towards high school graduation. Basically, they read into situations. I was actually wait listed, and then admitted on a full merit/aid. So don’t lose hope!
And for those who were not admitted, I’m not going to go into the whole “You’ll find the right fit” because you have heard it before and you’ll hear it again, and I know you probably aren’t in the place to hear it right now, even though it’s totally true. Originally, Bryn Mawr was not my top choice, but now, I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. Wherever you go might not have been your top choice, but I’m sure you’ll make it home.
@starsforeyes Have you looked at other women’s colleges - like Smith College, Mount Holyoke, etc.? Also, how about Haverford, which is nextdoor? Swarthmore? Vassar? There are tons of great liberal arts colleges on the east coast.
@plasticnebula I read some really nasty reviews about Mount Holyoke, and I’m not sure what to make of it. Seems nice overall but then I read reviews where girls talked about hating every second they went and how they thought everyone was crazy. I won’t get a chance to visit (family says it’s too far). But applying probably couldn’t hurt. Thank you for the suggestions! But I doubt I’d get into any of them. I think I’m shooting outside of my league. My SAT math score was only 570, and I think that’s nearly a dealbreaker at a lot of colleges. Plus my freshman and sophomore year grades were absolutely awful (a big spattering of Cs) because I was bullied really severely. I transferred to private school and pulled straight As junior year, but I think that it’s just not enough for a lot of colleges.
does anyone know their policy on appeals? I think I’m going to appeal the decision. I know its a long shot, but its what a Mawrter (or martyr) would do.
@PlasticNebula
do you know?
@starsforeyes I had one C in honors alg 2, and a c plus in stats last semester (math is not my strong suit anymore, it was as a kid). otherwise, all A’s and B’s.
at least u have an upward trend rather than a downward one. i don’t think schools fault u for having a rough go of it freshman year. and if u don’t want to major in math, the score isn’t a big deal.
@starsforeyes I’m curious where you read the bad reviews of MHC! We did extensive, extensive research and BMC, Wellesley, Smith and MHC and my daughter applied to the latter three. Of all the schools she considered, MHC seemed by far the happiest, most welcoming place. She now attends there and loves it. If you apply and get in, perhaps you could ask if they offer vouchers to fly in for accepted students day (I don’t know whether they do, but some schools do) so you could visit in real life.
@staceyneil http://www.studentsreview.com/MA/MHC_comments.html?type=negative here’s where I got all the bad reviews about Mount Holyoke. It is nice to hear some people love it though! To be fair, people are more likely to post negative reviews than they are positive ones. It just seemed to contrast a lot with the reviews I read on the same website of BMC, where all were positive except for a handful, so that’s why I kind of ruled MHC out originally. But it is comforting to hear that someone got such a positive vibe! I’ll have to check them out again.
@starsforeyes Every school is just about fit. There are bad reviews about Bryn Mawr too, but I love it. Personally, when I visited Mount Holyoke, I just…didn’t feel it. It didn’t feel right, and on top of that, there were several things about the school I did not like. However, I know people who go there and love it - each school will have students who love it there, and students who wish they attended elsewhere. I would instead look at the negative reviews that are constructive, and decide whether the things that bother those reviewers would bother you. Also, aren’t both Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr test optional this year?
For those that were differed I talked to my guidance counselor and she said that sometimes they just want to see your first semester grades and if you did well schools might still admit you early decision so don’t give up hope just yet!
Thank you @bria11. However, I’m pretty sure that is the financial aid matter in my case. So definitely keep hoping
