Bryn Mawr v. Wellesley

D was accepted at both, and got no money from either. So with that out of the way, which way to go? She visited both, and got a very different feel from them. Is there a distinct difference in what you will get out of the school? Thanks!

Is she interested in any particular major or set of majors?

She floats between biology and history, and she would like to study Japanese (in fact would like to go study abroad there).

Then I think Wellesley is a better option… I’ve heard so many great things about the study abroad program in Wellesley…

I applied to both and get waitlisted by BMC, which is my first choice… not even heard back from Wellesley~ (sad…)

I think people were either accepted by BMC or waitlisted. I haven’t heard of anyone who’s been flat out rejected.

I’m a current Bryn Mawr student. From what I have gathered, there is a pretty big difference in the two communities. From what I’ve heard Wellesley students can be pretty cut-throat and competitive, while Mawrtyrs don’t discuss grades with each other. I’ve also heard that Wellesly students tend to be more pre-professional (intend to go off and get high paying jobs in business or whatever) while most of the Bryn Mawr students I know want to go to graduate school or work for non-profit organizations. or in education.

I don’t agree that Wellesley is cut-throat, but I do agree that it is more pre-professional than BMC; there is a lot more interest there in law school, B-school, consulting, etc.

I applied to and visited both Bryn Mawr and Wellesley, and I never got the impression that Wellesley was cutthroat. Actually, I got the impression that Wellesley students were supportive of each other and also didn’t discuss their grades much. I spoke to one alumna who told me about her experiences, and how she was a bit surprised in grad school when people started asking her about her grades because she wasn’t used to discussing that at Wellesley. Wellesley seems to be a better school in terms of academics, but Bryn Mawr is also a really great school. Best wishes in the decision-making process.
