It’s crazy! Where did the time go? My senior is basically done, watching movies in her classes and spending time with her friends.
The school just reinstated the mask mandate in hopes everyone will be healthy at graduation.

I heard that’s what George has done too. Makes sense – a small price to pay to preserve senior week and graduation!
Hearing of many people coming home from their kids’ college graduation with covid, so be careful everyone. Home stretch!
The email was very well written, basically “let’s do this for your seniors.” It also included an appeal to parents to not host any off campus parties during this time.
I heard St Andrew’s sent home 15 kids last week. I couldn’t believe it since they are 100% boarding!
Congratulations to the class of 22!!!
Time has flown! Yup, decision is made, kiddo is very very happy (perfect school for him), and I am ecstatic - he is still going to be in California!
He has had a bunch of work to finish up, but hopefully the next couple weeks will slow up so he can savor the time he has left.
Kiddo is not “basically done”…tests and papers due up to the very last 4 days before graduation when grades are turned in. No rest for the weary and no coasting….I guess the school thinks if they keep the Seniors busy they might stay out of trouble? Harsh. No fun.
My advice to DA and other schools: Please don’t think the kids are going to like a Senior field trip to Great Wolf Lodge or other water park in May. Do you really want 150 kids in an indoor or outdoor water park, sliding into a pool of toddler pi$$ and getting sick before Commencement?
Thank you for your consideration.
Laughing at the toddler Pi$$ comment. Not the rest.
Where is CateCA kid heading for college?
After a full year of saying she wanted a SLAC, ours is now headed to a large research university. (She said most LACs felt like Boarding School 2.0?)
Congratulations! That’s great news.
Kiddo is pretty private online, so I am respecting his wishes to not post his destination. I dm’d you, and will tell anyone the same way who wants to know.
How about yours, @CaliMex ?
I would like to know too if you don’t mind sending me a DM.
@CaliMex, It’s interesting to hear that your DD thought she wanted a SLAC but by time to enroll her opinion changed because that is exactly the same process that my DS went through. We had the feeling that he would outgrow most of the SLACs.
On other threads, i have suggested that this evolution is a good reason to not start visiting colleges until spring break junior year. It’s really amazing how things can change in even a year!
Many of DS’ friends headed to bigger schools as well --"so over life in a small community " – when he was going through this. I recall that BU and NYU had the highest turnout for rep visits. Still some chose SLACs. DS did and there were quite a few BS kids there, and I think he would tell you that it was a very different experience from BS.
Can you share the timing of this flip from Slac to large uni? I fear that this may be true for my kid but he feels pigeon holed into slac. Boarding school 2.0 doesn’t seem right for him but how to bust out?
When did she flip? When she re-visited the three “finalist” colleges: the two SLACs and the one public research university she was admitted to with the lowest cost of attendance after financial aid and merit.
TBH, she never expected to get into the public research university she will be attending. We know kids admitted to Ivies who were rejected there. (That might have influenced the decision, too?)
We had the reverse happen. Thought she wanted to be in a city and ended up with a long list of mostly rural SLACs…
T’was the week before graduation
And all through my mind
Should I tell the truth?
Or, should I be kind?
Emotions are mixed
There’s a hole in my heart
Let’s spill some “tea”
Before I depart!
Conflicting feelings are raw
Knowing kiddo will leave
In someways we are happy
In someways we’ll grieve
As most of you know
BS is a trial
It’s not always happy -
Don’t be in denial!
We feel sadness and regret
So much missed during COVID
If we reveal too much -
We’ll be banished like Ovid!
Ambivalence is the word
That many Seniors now feel
Graduating in ‘22
Here is the deal…
The last time our students
Saw a “normal year” pass
They were “newbies on campus”
And, “newbies” in class
Our students missed much
since BS did start
It’s hard to know WHAT
Now sits in their heart.
As a parent, I know
I feel disappointed and sad
For DA was not so much good
As it was that much bad.
Teachers check out
Kids who are coasting
Teachers not caring
Parents are “roasting”.
Perhaps it was COVID?
For booze, kids were itchy
Thy make posts and hook up
The girls they are (wait for it) “twitchy”
The experience was less
Than we hoped for at best
I will leave it at that
Per my kiddo’s request.
Was it worth sending kiddo
To BS - want to know?
It depends on your kid
And where they will go!
There were plenty of kids
Who wound up in big trouble
Withdrew or took Med Leave -
They couldn’t handle the “bubble”.
To the snobby and smug
At HADES & the rest
It’s funny and sad, but
These years were your best!
Congratulations to the Class of 2022 and their proud family members.
It’s been an interesting ride….thanks to those of you on CC who provided wisdom, support, advice, and laughs.
To @SkiEurope - thanks for not deleting my cheesy poems!
See you in the 19th hole
Congratulations to you and golf kiddo, and all the best for your next endeavors!
Yup! Annnnnd, that’s a wrap! A wonderful baccalaureate and graduation weekend at Mercersburg. Grateful to the faculty and staff who got us through these crazy, awful past couple of years. She finished her 4th year as she began her first: full of excitement and optimism. Congrats to all in the class of 2022!
Hey BS class of 2022 parents, can someone help with this Common App question? My kiddo is a repeat Junior and not sure how to answer… “please indicate if any of these options will affect your progression through or since secondary or high school”. One of the options is “did or will graduate late”. Does she check this box?
