and the countdown begins!!!
trying to keep busy and not think about it - hard to do - 35 days
As a BS newbie parent last admissions cycle with DD, I remember the waiting was the hardest part. I hated being “in limbo” and just wanted to know something already! Fortunately, DD was kept very busy and didn’t really worry too much. You’ve done all you can do, so just celebrate completing the process =D>
@TheStig2 what was your DD’s outcome?
@Rathgar She applied for 11th grade, currently at BS and loves it!
5 Acceptances, 2 Waitlists (was later admitted to one of them), 0 Rejections
Cannot lie, M10 anxiety is alive and in our house…Just hoping for the best…
wow that’s awesome!! i’m applying for junior year as well. how was the transition for your daughter both academically and socially? did she feel it was hard to enter a grade that was already unified as a result of spending two years together? Thanks so much for your input. @TheStig2
Waiting is hard. But what can we do? I am getting marketing emails from two schools that suggest me to make a backup plan - visit their schools on March 11th for rolling applications. Haha. I must admit that this strategy seems effective.
That is funny.
DS not worried at all --says there is nothing he can do about it now, he tried his best. Me, I’m nervous. That’s why he gets to go to BS and I didn’t.
GoatKid got admitted to our local BS as a day student, so everyone is a bit more relaxed knowing that a viable Plan B exists in case everything went south on March 10.
We have one less school to worry about. It uses a non-sss FA application and I was confused and screwed it up.
Daughter applied to 7 schools : one magnet, one charter, one private catholic in town and 4 BS. She had to take several exams besides SSAT, since each school had different requirements. I am glad the application process is over, it was time consuming and tiring. We are counting the days, like all the other parents. No matter what result she will have, I am proud of her effort and maturity. It was a great practice for college application and even if she does not get into her dream school, applying was worth it.
Fun story: Only today did I realize the impact of March 10. I voiced it to my mother, and she started laughing. Oh, but it wasn’t the I’m-genuinely-laughing-because-it’s-funny laughing, but oh-my-gosh-I’m-actually-emotionally-on-edge laughing. Is this actually a fun story? Probably not. Point is, my mother and I are tired of feeling this anxious.
@GoatMama could you please explain how your local bs notifies you of acceptance as a day student ahead of m10? although it’s written in past tense, it still isn’t 100% clear. thanks.
@onthewestfence Our local BS has different notification dates for day students and boarding students. While boarding students are notified on March 10, day students are notified earlier, in the beginning of February. Notifications are sent by email followed by a package sent in the mail. The difficulty is that contracts for day students are due prior to March 10, so we will have to find a solution for that. I hope this clarifies it.
Just looking at many school calendars - spring breaks begin as early as March 3 at some schools - so in reality the decision about our futures is really being made over the next two weeks? Do admissions have it all decided way before March 10?
I would imagine the Admissions Offices do not observe the break at the height of their season.
Spring break is a fairly busy time in admissions offices. After decisions are sent they are coordinating revisit days.
@GoatMama thanks for clarifying. do any of these day students also have financial aid requests? it appears that the full pays have an advantage in these circumstances since they don’t have to bother submitting the current year tax returns so early. good luck and hope you are able to make those choices on m10.
