***BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2013***

My Brooklyn interview is on March 4th, lets hope it goes well.

@DrKTC2013 do you mind sharing me your stats? Im in the boat with everyone pessimistic about getting into PACT my SAT score is in the lower 2000s  hope they overlook tht with my GPA, extracurriculars, and leadership n give me a shot at interview >.<

Sorry to say @naokuvi you might get an interview with pact but highly doubt getting accepted with a CR+M <1450

@asianandproud Haha yeah I know I applied to the program with wishful thinking but I’m still being a realist. From what I have heard from consulting the coordinator of the program they take interview and extracurriculars into high consideration and my GPA is above the average GPA they let in last year. I highly doubt I will be accepted just because my SAT is well 100 points below that (I really should have actually taken that test seriously and taken it more than once). Still I guess there is no harm in applying and hoping for the best :)

Honestly I wish I applied to more joint-degree programs but due to circumstances I am unable to go to a University that isn’t in close proximity to my home

Naokuvi, u can see my stats if you look at my profile, and dude dont worry too much. I have two friends currently in the pact program and they received a 31 act and 1410 sat respectively. U just had to be able to portray an undeniable devotion towards medicine in your essays.

Did u take the act?

Haha i feel that my essays were well written and fleshed out so hopefully that helps  unfortunately I did not try my hand at the ACT T_T thanks for the positive words DrKTC!

U kno naokuvi, it seems like you for sure planning on going to UT dallas, regardless of pact, and i want to commend you for that. Utd is a really good school, and if i remember correctly, they have the highest accepteance rate to med school (~90%), either way i think ull be fine, btw, did u experience a glitch in the application - like i couldnt add quotes

Haha yeah I am I went during their Scholar’s Day event and absolutely fell in love with the campus and the quieter atmosphere compared to other bustling campuses. I also like the amount of research opportunities they offer to underclassmen as well. Yeah I did I couldn’t add several punctuations such as quotations, apostrophes, and slashes. If I don’t get into PACT I plan on going to UTD and just going the traditional pre-med track. Entering the field of medicine has been a dream of mine ever since I could walk and talk and I dont plan on letting anything discourage me from that :)

Yeah no the average CR + M for PACT last year was 1487, that was its first year, the only logical trend would be for it to increase.

@asianandproud Yeah the stats were very high last year and that was its inaugaural year too! I would be happy enough with just getting to experience the interview haha of course with such a competitive program I know my SAT score is sub par and with that it is unlikely that I will be accepted even into the interview process but I already know that I am going to UTD regardless so since I already applied might as well carry a little hope you know?

My D got full ride at UTD and we are debating between UTD, UT Austin and TAMU. She got wait listed on FAME. We have not visited the colleges. @naokuvi / others can you elaborate on your experience?

@you can see my experiences if you look at my profile. Also, i think UT Austin and UTD would be your D’s best options

Hey grofkr, just wanted to let you know if you dont already that your D can apply for FAME again if she goes to UTSA her freshman year.

@grofkr I was debating between UT Austin and UTD at one point and I have been to both of their campuses so I can elaborate on those two first off I will tell you about my experience about UT Austin. Through research you will find that UT Austin is a very prestigious public university, some even dub it the public ivy of the south but of course some euphemism was probably played. UT Austin was my dream school during my junior year and so I went to visit the campus. Assuming your daughter plans on going pre-med, UT Austin, so I have heard, has a great pre-med program as long as your daughter is willing to get involved. Now on to the campus, I have been there two times, once on a Model UN Meet and 2nd on a personal visit. The campus is ENORMOUS I got lost several times on my MUN meet but the campus is also very beautiful. Many people complain that it doesn’t give the college campus feel because it is so integrated into the city of Austin but i felt that the campus was beautiful with all its unique buildings and abundance of trees. The people there were very welcoming asking me if I needed any information and help. A downside is the dorms they are packed to the brim and upon my tour of the Jester halls I could hear partying while the dorm rooms were cramped, of course you can pay extra for the nicer dorms but at this point your D will probably have to pay for an off campus dorm or apartment or Jester unless she already paid her housing fee (again UT Austin is definitly overpopulated). The lecture halls for UT Austin were huge and my friend who is a freshman there says the freshman basic classes were sometimes so full that there were not enough seats in his Calc 1 class, now I have heard that the classes go down to a smaller manageable size the later years. UT Austin boasts very good academic programs in natural sciences although it is known for being a party school and does have a lot of distractions but some people see this as an opportunity to become more invovled among their peers. Now onto UT Dallas. I visited UT Dallas for their scholar’s day event. UT Dallas right now is campaigning for tier one and it boasts fine research programs. Its prestige of course is less then UT Austin but that is not to say it is not growing in recognition, in fact its reputation is quickly growing among employers, graduate schools, and prospective students. The campus is very small but a lot of buildings are new as they are investing in many construction projects. It is definitly a campus you will not get lost in and can bike/walk around easily. It is located in a suburb in contrast to Austin’s bustling city so it does have a quieter atmosphere to it. The dorms are very nice having only been around 2years old (actually they are building a dorm that will be completely new for the students of fall 2013). The dorms are made suite style with 3 seperate rooms for 3 individuals that lock, a shared restroom and shower between these 3 people, and a living room. Definitly one of the nicest and spacious dorms you will ever find offered to freshman and definitly a major step up from UT Austin’s dorm. UT Dallas’s campus life is pretty quiet. From what I have heard is that for many years it was a commuter school and for the most part many students still choose to commute their but with the building of new residence halls college life is growing. With this there are obviously less parties and social gatherings than UT Austin but through joining organizations and attending events it is stil pretty easy to get to know your peers and form bonds. This may be preferable as it does offer less distractions. UT Dallas offers a lot of research programs to underclassmen which is good as you can start stacking your med school resume early and they do offer a lot of scholarships. Ultimately if you can afford UT Austin and medical school without having to live a life of debt go there. It definitly has more prestige than UT Dallas even though UTD is growing. I chose UTD because i felt i would work better in a smaller campus with smaller classrooms and less distractions. I also liked the research programs it offered and the its proximity to home. UTD is a great cheaper alternative to UT Austin and its growing FAST. Of course I am biased because i did finalize UTD as my final choice. I too received a full ride and felt that an education at UTD would be better for me than paying 25k a year for an education at UT Austin. I hope this helps just ask if you want any other information because these two schools were my top choices for awhile now.

Thanks so much for detail info. Wish you all Good luck

does anyone have info on the usciences program? my interview is this friday

@grofkr no problem  let me know when your daughter finalizes her decision!

is anyone talking about anything besides texas programs? lol
