*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

I guess you could if you’d like to! :slight_smile: At this point, everyone’s calling it crap shoot lol it’s like “good luck, friends” hunger games med school style.

I just got my notification from penn state bs/md for an interview at Jefferson. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

How did they notify? e-mail? phone? USPS?

I saw the notification when I logged on to mypennstate. Under application status it should say “We will be notifying Jefferson Medical College of your candidacy, and they will be in contact with you regarding an interview at Jefferson. If you are not selected for this specific program within the Eberly College of Science, you will be considered for general admission to the Eberly College of Science instead.”

oh gosh. the nervousness is starting up with interview notifications going out! They do it in batches, right? I didn’t get anything on that yet.

Asapaj5, I don’t think that is an interview notification. It says that Jefferson Med will contact you regarding your interview, which mean they will decide if you get an interview or not.

It is pretty early to get some interview notifications. Most come out mid-December on. But correct me if I’m wrong…

Methinx Jefferson interviews all of the candidates sent up to the mountain by Penn State as they have first discretion…Methinx asapaj5 will be interviewed! Just sayin what methinx!

@GreenSage im not sure if they do it in batches but i applied a month earlier than the deadline so that might be why i got it already.

@MedicalBoy i saw some interview notifications from last year on the 2013 thread and it seems like this status means that Jefferson is going to email me the date and time of the interview maybe next month. And i applied pretty early for this program so that might be why i already got a notification.

Yeah that might be it. I applied around 10 days before the deadline.

I’m both terrified and excited for these interview notifications. Its going to be hectic Jan-April with all these interviews.

Yeah I just saw some posts from last year.

Congrats asapaj5!

@asapaj5 congrats!! :D

@MedicalBoy, you’re right, they told us interview notifications will be going out mid-december so we’re heading there and they’re expected. And oh hectic it will be! O.o are you interested in any of the programs in particular at all?

It says I’m accepted to the Emberly College of Science; do i assume that means i dont get considered for the medical thing? I need them to be more straight forward about this

Well penn state is definitely up there because its 6 years and Jefferson is a pretty good med school.

UPitt, Rochester, TCNJ are also there but in the end I have to find a balance between education and less financial burden.

Ultimately wherever you go to med school doesn’t matter. You can work hard anywhere and get into a good residency program. It has been done many times before so while I may have favorite programs, it is not set in stone. :)

Ah I gotcha. I think the med school matters a good bit though, because it does have more of an impact on your future career than does your UG school, so I’m not too picky about those.

last years threads suggest when they admit you to Eberly…it means that they are NOT sending application to Jefferson…

thanks! good luck to you as well!(:

Good luck to everyone and Happy Holidays!

@GreenSage @shadow522 @silverwad thanks everyone!!!

@GreenSage

Not one doctor I’ve spoken to or heard of has ever mentioned where they went to med school. It’s all about the residency. Pretty much all med schools teach the same material but the “prestige” of the school comes from the pool of med school students and their competitiveness. I would rather go to a school that is average-above average that has students collaboration and aid than to those ones with students who are willing to kill for a residency spot.

Yes it is nice to have a med school diploma from Harvard but if you end up in the same residency as someone who went to UMDNJ, did it really make that much of a difference?

Also money plays a huge factor. If you have the resources to handle hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, by all means go to a prestigious med school.

I personally would like to have my debt to a minimum regardless of how much money I make in the future.

@tropixx

I think I’ve been seeing you on these forums for quite some time now. (Maybe 2 years). I know from some of your posts that you are very knowledgeable about these programs. Are you a senior that can finally apply?
