*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

Greensage - “choosing between umkc and drexel” - go in for a program that is really guarenteed. Drexel is not guarenteed for all 100% of students. The last two lines on its website says that this program is not guarenteed. Between these 2, umkc is a better bet

@HPMEMOM, I understand where you’re coming from, thanks! My top choice school is really RPI so best of both yay! :)

I love RPI but it’s a $60,000 school. I won’t qualify for much need-based and I hear there aren’t much merit based either. Is that true?

yes RPI is good. Hope u did some research if this is your top choice

Any inside scoop on RPI issues HPMEMOM?

It kind of is true, unfortunately regarding the merit aids. It’s almost gaurenteed that you’ll get more aid from other schools you apply to. They’re simply such an expensive school  So much, in fact, that it has turned into a joke among students. “All my money and my daughter go to RPI”

I’ve just fallen so much in love with RPI that I think i’m willing to bear it. However, if I get other options like full tuition or something amazing like that i’ll reconsider.

no we did not apply there. we did the union/amc route and got accepted. however, these 3 colleges feed to amc… 20 students each… the board is different for all 3 colleges… and each looks for a specific thing…rpi looks for research and students will be done in 3 years. union wont let you finish in 3 years. you have to stay for 4 years.
last year i saw some desparate students applying to all 3 feeder colleges for amc… that is not a good idea as the coordinator is just 1 person for all feeder colleges.

@HPMEMOM does it tend to affect your application badly in terms of being accepted? I applied to all RPI, Union, and Siena. but only RPI is a 7 year program out of them…

no, you are fine as you applied to only one bs md program

I LOVED RPI too. It sucks that it’s so expensive. I got the Rensselaer medalist award in my school last year, so that helps (at least $15,000 a year), but I’m still looking to go where ever I get the most money. That’s why I’m applying to so many different programs.

Oh haha SAT scores… I was one of those annoying people who started studying at the end of 10th grade. I self-studied about 200 hours (shout-out to Xiggi and Silverturtle for the help!!), and then got a 2230 in Nov 2012. I was ecstatic (I’m not the best tester around so that was insane for me), but my mom wasn’t as happy. She put me in a tutoring program for just a few sessions (I think like 5 cuz its mad expensive) to try to bump up my score, and I ended up with a 2360 in March. Definitely a plus when applying to these programs, so I have my mom to thank for pushing me to that point. I lucked out.

HUG Mama TWICE…you owe her big time…and congrats!

I have. I am FOREVER grateful lol  Thanks!

I have applied to a few other BS/MD programs but it looks like I have the best chance at Neomed right now. Not that I don’t consider myself a strong applicant, but those other programs have acceptance rates of like 2%. I have also applied to a few undergrad universities.

Until a few weeks ago I had a preference for undergrad, I thought I would go the traditional route to med school, and I applied to BS/MD programs on the side. But over the course of the past few weeks, and especially after speaking to current students in the program, Neomed has become one of my top few choices. I really like the fact that I will be able to finish in 6 years, and despite it’s low profile, it is by no means a bad program. If accepted, I would strongly consider going, but I wouldn’t be able to make a decision right this moment because I have to wait for the results of all my other applications. I do think it is a good idea to take this chance for a guaranteed medical seat if it is offered to me.

Good luck to your daughter by the way!

Any more BA/MD or BS/MD interview notices came out yet? I understand from reading these forums that St. Bonaventure emailed candidates on the 1st round of interviews at St. Bona for the SBU/GWU program. NEOMED seems to have just conducted their first round of interviews for their early round candidates. Any others?

The VCU honors program notifications are out. If you got into the honors program, then your app has been forwarded to the med school.

And I still didn’t get anything from SBU for either the UG or the SBU/GWU program
do you know if they send out more upcoming interview notifications for that in batches?

Second round of notifications for SBU/GW will be coming out soon. I called them earlier.

@GreenSage I haven’t even heard back from VCU’s undergrad. How did you hear about your acceptance? Snail mail or email?

Snail mail. They come in big envelopes for both the UG and the Honors notifications. Not everyone got their mail for the honors program yet, because they just sent them out. I think you should have gotten the UG letter though so maybe call them?

Had my TCNJ interview. Dr. Shevlin, who does the interviews, is super nice. It was just why medicine, why BS/MD, and he talked about extracurriculars for some time. Everything was straightforward and flowed well. He said interviews will continue until February, so I guess some people won’t hear for a few weeks whether they have an interview at TCNJ yet. Good luck guys!

Has anyone heard about interviews for the UM program?
