Congratulations to folks who got invited to interview at GWU through St. Bonaventure. Those who did not make the shortlist, I hope you will have success at other schools. After reading the bit about GWU’s med school being on probation, I wonder if a reject from St. Bona/GWU is a blessing in disguise!

@collegeponderer - I think we may have met at one of our interview locations. From your previous posts, it seems you are already accepted to NEOMED/Kent State. Congrats! You can now interview for other programs with that secure in hand. BTW, are you in state Ohio or out of state?

@texaspg and @Midhelper: This is the reply from Texas Tech on my son’s question of Texas residency: Unfortunately, the UMSI Program is designed for Texas Residents. With your parents moving to Pennsylvania, and if you are claimed as a dependent on their income tax, you too will be considered a Pennsylvania Resident. If you stay in Texas for college AND you file independently for your income tax, you will remain a Texas Resident and would be eligible to participate in the UMSI Program.

We are pleased to inform you your regular decision application to the Weinberg College of Arts And Sciences at Northwestern University for fall 2014 is now complete and under review. You will receive an admission decision by early-April.

It doesn’t say it’s a rejection, is the letter what it seems (my application is complete) or what? Maybe I’m just being paranoid… what did the rejection emails read?

@WeIsCool- I got the same thing a couple weeks ago. It’s totally unrelated to HPME. It just means they got all your component parts to the application.

@IMGDAD
This may be naive but since 2014 income tax isn’t going to be due till April 2015 why not let your son proceed so as to preserve all options. From the email sounds like Texas Tech is happy to have him progress.

@SLCMom, thank you. My son replied to the email as follow: “I have spoken with my dad and he is going to consult his accountant to see how we can satisfy those requirements. Meantime, I will continue with the process since I am still a Texas resident, and will definitely be so until at least July, or continue to be a Texas resident if the accountant can figure out what we can do after that. The other question I have is what would happen to a student who has been admitted to UMSI and then after one year, the student’s resident status changes?”.

The reply he has received to his email: “That will be great. I am also checking with our Registrar’s Office to see if there are any other interpretations of the regulations.We look forward to having you interview for the program.”

@rafanadal
I’m so sorry…I think all of us understand and sympathize. Please don’t let it get you down too much. Do you have other interviews to look forward to? Some programs have not announced yet. I tell my daughter the same thing: it is just a matter of “fit” and not a reflection on your capabilities and worth. You guys will all get where you want to be - you already have the intellect, work ethics, passion and commitment, or you wouldn’t be here now. It is natural to be disappointed. Take a deep breath, go eat some ice cream (or whatever comfort food you prefer) and look towards tomorrow.

@rafanadal Like SLCMom says there is no other group of people than this group who understands exactly how you feel. You get your hopes up high like crazy and then boom it crashes. It feels awful but Northwestern is a real real tough program to get into. Not only do you have to have crazy top scores but you also have to show that you are the cream of the cream of the cream of the crop in terms of achievement. Some are already published etc.

But if you even applied to Northwestern then you obviously have very good stats and you probably have some very good other options. This is just one route to get into med school. In 4 years you may still be going to that med school who knows. There are many ways to draw out that map, just don’t give up on your journey. Try not to let it get you down too long - you guys are all great students and you of all people should be optimistic about your futures. When us parents get old we are going to depend on you smarter ones.

Aww I’m sorry @rafanadal. Go eat some comfort food with some friends, and make a pact to not speak about college AT ALL. I did this after college apps were done and it felt so refreshing.
I’d recommend IHOP’s Stuffed French Toast.
In all seriousness, though, I really sympathize with your sadness but please don’t perceive it as a reflection of your worth~there are so few spots they can give out that they inevitably reject some extremely well-qualified people.
Wish you the best
