*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

@Midhelper-- I agree that in the end, probably everyone who they would have accepted no matter interview order will be accepted. Despite this, I really don’t think they interview their best applicants first, because the applications are sent on a rolling basis to Albany med (as in RPI gives us the AMC application as soon as they read our application and deem us fit to be forwarded). Albany then reads our applications and offers selected students interviews on that same rolling basis. So I doubt that they interview the best ones first, but rather the ones that RPI happened to read first.

@class1417- I’m sorry that your daughter didn’t get in. It seems awfully strange. I have similar stats and I was rejected PPSP but accepted undergrad. I think Case Western wants to protect its yield, as WeIsCool said, and they must be pretty confident that your daughter will be accepted and will attend much higher caliber schools. Good luck to her!! I’m sure she’ll do amazing through this process.

@happy321- Were you notified of Brooklyn by email or snail mail?

@class1417 I am in the same boat as your daughter. I was baffled when I saw.

Did anyone hear of Brooklyn coming out yet? What about Stony? I didn’t receive anything in the mail or email. Anyone hear back for their Scohlars for Medicine or WISE program?

Thanks all for chip in. It is my child, but I was so crushed I pretend it was someone else’s daughter instead of my son. Sorry.

Yes, he applied PPSP. He pulled out profiled of the students in his high school who applied over the years. Most of them get in, his profile is in the far right corner of the chart with big gap to the rest. What you guys said makes sense. BTW, he has 2400 SAT, one sitting.

@class1417, I am a valedictorian, perfect act, perfect sat, perfect sat subjects tests (4), 3 years of medical research, national merit finalist and not even invited for PPSP interview

@MedAspirant- I think class1417’s wasn’t even accepted regular undergrad, which is incredibly strange and random.

@starlight27. My Son was notified by email. 15 accepted. 30 on wait-list.

@starlight27,I am wait listed for regular under grad. Well, I am not planning to attend undergrad anyway.

@Happy321- Were those notified only the people who were accepted and waitlisted? Or are they releasing decisions on a rolling basis?

@MedAspirant- Well then I guess those of you who they thought were too amazing for them were waitlisted/rejected. Still weird. How many programs did you apply to? Good luck with the rest!

@starlight27. email says --… Acceptance offers have already been made to fifteen applicants…

@MedAspirant when my D applied to Case PPSP 2 years ago I thought it was because her test scores were less than perfect. I guess you proved that wrong. I am so confused. I am very curious as to how they choose their students now OR is it that there are that many students with perfect stats applying there? Crazy!!!

@starlight27 RPI is not the one to send out the AMC supplement - those requests come from AMC directly. Are you sure that RPI sends the apps on a rolling basis? I remember when I spoke to someone from RPI back in the fall (it was either end of Nov or first week in Dec.) and she told me that she was a little behind compared to last year and that she will be forwarding them that Friday. I always thought that AMC screens and sends out the supplement requests to those they see as stronger candidates first. I know my son’s Union app was forwarded in Dec but he didn’t get his interview invite until Feb. for March interview while others forwarded around the same time got interview requests sooner. I would really like to call and find out but the waiting has given me stomach cramps so I am trying to chill for a bit - the waiting until April is cutting into my breathing. @-)

Those who applied to case and are wondering about undergrad admissions, emails were sent out a while back to those not invited to PPSP interview requesting you to fill out a form if you were still interested in Case. Maybe if you didn’t fill out that form they still waitlisted you even though you didn’t confirm with them. :-/

Adding to @Midhelper’s post above… in addition to filling out the form to let them know that you are still interested in Case even without the PPSP, you had to write an essay as I recall. I wondered at the time that the practice was used for Case to gauge applicants’ interest level.

@Happy321- Thanks for the info!! I hope you get pulled off the waitlist!

@Midhelper- So maybe you’re right! I assumed it was rolling; maybe not then. We can call to find out after this whole process is over. And yeah, it’s crazy how long we have to wait to hear back if we weren’t in the first round. My interview is only at the end of this week, meaning it may be weeks before I get any sort of decision from them. Also, about Case, that’s a good point… I didn’t even remember doing it until you just said it.

@4beardolls- When I reconfirmed my interest in Case, I didn’t include an essay, though there was space for one. It wasn’t required or anything.

Out of curiosity, did all of you rejected/waitlisited people reconfirm your interest?

@starlight27, I have heard that some colleges use “optional” essays as a way to gauge applicants’ interest.

@starlight27 it doesn’t matter when you get interviewed at AMC for this round, everyone will find out at the same time somewhere in the first week of April up to April 7th.

@Medaspirant, Gosh, I really do not know what to make out of your case. S did not get invited to PPSP interview,I thought OK, he does has one B in his transcript. Then he is waitlisted on undergraduate, we were really crushed. someone in his school got in with good scholarship , he has 1/3 of his grade Bs. Similar personality, similar Ecs to my son. Applying BS/MD programs has really been a humbling experience.

Case knows, with almost CERTAINTY, that most BS/MD applicants will matriculate elsewhere, when not accepted to PPSP. They do not want to weaken their yield and have to move on to their wait-list once one chooses to go elsewhere…what we all do…keep all are options open and make our choice at our leisure.
