Did anyone get an invite to an HPME interview in March?

@dumich & @class1417 about Case - I wonder if they essays are really important? 2yrs ago when my D applied PPSP and did not get invited we were not surprised as we thought you had to have nearly perfect tests scores. While hers were competitive, the figures people were posting were above hers. However, she did get accepted into UG with their highest merit award. Case is just a mystery to me.

I wish some people invited to Case interview would share their stats then we may get a better idea. I care because in addition to my own kids I do help other students with their applications

I didn’t apply to Case’s BS/MD and i got waitlisted… idk why. I did apply to lots of other ones though. Its wierd. I think they’re waitlisting the people that are “too good” or “over qualified”

@Midhelper, the whole BS/MD is a mystery to me.

Regarding undergrad, maybe the real question is: do we really intend to go to case if we are accepted? For my son, he only applied because PPSP. When he did not get interview, it was just convenient to ask them consider undergraduate (which I believe he did, but has not confirmed with him yet). In our mind he is not likely to go there(so as many here), we were just shocked they waitlisted him. So in a way, Case did the right thing not accepting him, to protect their yield. Then the question is what if there is someone who has real high stats AND really like Case, can they distinguish them?

If I am the Admissions Officer of Case, I would not give any of the students who did not get into PPSP a place in the UG program. The majority of the students applying to PPSP would have applied to other BS/MD programs, including some lesser programs and it is highly likely that these students would be offered a place in the combined programs elsewhere. The majority of these students would picked a combined program in a lesser college than to go to UG at Case. On the other hand, if the students care more about “quality of education” and only apply to top tier BS/MD programs, these students would most likely have also applied to the Ivies and comparable top tier UG colleges. These students will go to the Ivies or the likes of WUSTL. Therefore, dishing out UG offers to these students is likely not going to be a good return for Case.

@class1417 I guess one way they can tell is that letter of intent they ask from the rejected PPSP applicants and the short blurb they would write. Even if it is optional as mentioned by someone here if you really want to be considered there, I would expect that you would’ve chosen to write the essay.

Case is a very good research institution. When my D sent her requested letter of intent, she was serious and it was one of her top choices since research is important to her. I think that’s why RPI/AMC program is so perfect for her.

@Midhelper, everything worked out with your D, very nice!
What about actsat2400, he did not apply PPSP there, still get waitlisted.

@IMGDAD, I wish what you said is true. I do hope everyone here either get into another program or get accepted by a nice school.

Has anyone heard any news from ROCHESTER REMS ?

@dumich, REMS counselors contacted students (by phone) about their acceptance (beginning) on March 10, and followed with snail-mail.

I applied to Case for the PPSP program and was rejected. I did indicate that I would like to be considered for UG after my PPSP rejection but I did not complete the essay. Yesterday I received my decision email for the UG admissions and found out I am wait listed. I know my credentials are way beyond what Case requires as per my school Naviance system. Though I don’t think I would go to Case, I am curious what the basis of their decision is. The following comment in my decision letter is quite confusing to say the least (what has housing got to do with admission decisions? Don’t all colleges guarantee housing for freshman?) -

Because Case Western Reserve is a residential university that guarantees housing for all first-year students, we have been forced to be conservative in the number of acceptances we initially offer. The admission committee hopes you will accept a place on our wait list for the Class of 2018.

I am starting to wonder if what state you are from has anything to do with these acceptance/waitlists? Maybe they are trying to fill quotas etc.

I think Case is using this as a marketing strategy on their side. I dont remember exactly but they either had an Optional essay requirement or an application fee waiver. One or the other. But what they’re trying to do is have many over-qualified applicants apply to their school and just have a higher amount of applicants so that they can have a lower acceptance rate and be ranked higher on US News to increase their reputation, which is why they waitlisted so many PPSP applicants and well qualified ones. They want to create the IMPRESSION that Case is a difficult school to get into so that its “prestige” will improve

@actsat2400, just curious why did you apply Case? Was it a backup?

Hoe did I get waitlisted by my safety school —Case Western?

Yeah I just found that thread too - very interesting information even though we are not in that situation. Showing intent to colleges apparently plays a huge role.

Here is the link to the thread in the forum if anyone is interested:

@drillmom did your d/s receive a phone call?(:

Does Drexel notify by mail or by email?

Do you guys send thank-you note after interview? We did not.

@shadow522, Yes, she did. And that’s how I know.

@Nlb2014 Drexel notifications are by mail at least for Villanova/Drexel. We were at Villanova Saturday and the advisor said they received the Drexel decisions and they (Nova) just mailed them so I would expect Villanova/Drexel letters this week. My guess is the other Drexel decisions will be out soon.
