BS/MD Program vs. Traditional

Hi there, I got accepted into Nova’s 7 year BS/MD program and I also got accepted into the University of Florida. I was not expecting to get into the BS/MD program at Nova because it’s so competitive, so I had a set determination to attend my dream school UF. Since I got accepted into both, I am very conflicted on where to go. I applied to UF for their biochem major. Should I go to Nova or UF? Is it better to go on a BS/MD route or the traditional route? Has anyone been in a situation like this? Also, is it hard to maintain a good GPA at UF since it is a large school?

If you can afford Villanova, I’d say go that route. Getting into medical school is very competitive. If you pass this up, you might not get another opportunity. That said, it might leave you with unmanageable debt. Don’t paint yourself into a financial corner.

Oops, to clarify I meant Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida! Not Villanova

Oooh! That’s probably better. The Villanova/Drexel program is SPENDY. What sort of financial package did you get at Florida and NSU?

After further reading, it appears as though NSU offers both a DO and a MD. The only hybrid i can find is BS/DO. Are you certain about the MD hybrid? There are advantages to the DO depending on what specialties you are interested in. Ditto MD, depending.

In terms of tuition, UF is cheaper since it is a public school while NSU is more expensive (private school). I want to be a dentist when I’m older, but I’m just conflicted between attending NSU’s Dual Admissions Dental or a traditional route at UF.

And I meant BS/DMD at NSU, their Dual Admissions Dental program.

I’m officially changing my tune. Dental school isn’t as competitive. If you are convinced that you can keep your grades up, I’d go the UF route and save your pennies.

Congrats @icedcoffeelover at getting accepted into both!

I’d say that if you’re absolutely certain that you want to go to dental school and do not want to go through the anxiety/stress of applying to dental school, take the BS/DMD program.

However, if your passion for UF outweighs the uncertainty that comes with applying to dental school, then go to UF.

I also agree with everything @eyemgh said.

Hello! Can you please share your stats, so I can get an idea of what they are looking for? Thanks
