BS/MD Programs?

Hey guys, I probably should have posted this on the Medical school forum, but here it goes.

I live in Canada, and I am seriously looking into applying for American BS/MD programs.
The thing I want to know the most is how hard is it to get accepted into one of these programs?

I've hear that it's even harder for international students such as myself to get a placement.

Could someone give me a ballpark approximation of difficulty of getting into them? For instance, stats of people who get in, etc.

Also, is there any tips you guys have to a Canadian who wants to attend this program?

Thanks in advance! :)

Well really it depends on the program you’re looking at. There’s a wide range of them from HPME at Northwestern University and PLME at Brown (both very selective) to the one at the University of Nevada, Reno (a lot less selective).

^There’s even a section about BS/MD admissions for internationals.

Thanks Smile :)

I guess I’m opting for the more selective one atm.
But dang, now it seems its more competitive than I imagined…

Pretty sure you need Nevada residency for Nevada’s program…

^Oh, haha. I’ve never actually looked into the UNR BS/MD program. I’m a Nevada resident and some people I know are currently in it.

Anyway, FoShizzle, which programs are you looking at? I’m looking into PLME, Rice/Baylor, URoch, and HPME. :)

I’m looking at all of them atm, haha. I guess I should apply to all to extend my chances? So far, I’ve done cursory research on them, and needs to do more, but PLME appeals the most to me.

Well, I wouldn’t recommend applying to ALL of them, haha. Those application fees would really add up! And applying to all of them won’t necessarily increase your chances of acceptances. College admissions is really a crapshoot. It just doesn’t follow probability rules. If you are leaning most toward PLME, I suggest that you go to the Brown thread, there’s a few students that are currently in PLME who are willing to answer any questions. Also, are you a junior right now?

Yup, a Junior. I guess that’s why I’m getting more paranoid by the second lol.
Definitely, I’ll go check out the Brown thread and see what’s happening over there.

Whatever you chose, Good Luck!
