Reflection: I did not get flat-out rejected by any schools, but I received a ton of waitlists. To those considering the traditional route, definitely visit and show interest–that is probably my biggest regret. Other than that, thank you to this online community for being such a fantastic source of information, support, and quite often, distraction! :)

Summer started with anxiety. Where to apply, what is the fall back plan etc. After a really long year, we are now done with everything. This is my last post as fallpsat. Closing that account and will be HPMEMOM hence forth!

Undergrad back ups

UIUC - Mech Engg - Accepted
Stanford - Mech Engg - Accepted

Advise to future students - BS MD programs are a gamble. They are not run on stats. While it is important that you have a good gpa, rank and high scores in SAT and ACT, it is all dependent on the undergrad screener. If that guy is impressed, you get the interview. For them it is just a job and they read 100’s of applications. So, getting picked from that is the real challange.
Once you cross that hurdle and get the interview, it is not hard as you can express yourself and clear that stage.
Therefore, my advice to future students would be to always have a fall back plan and pick something with which you will be happy. If you dont get this direct medical program and have to go into the fall back plan, you should be happy. This is not the end of the world. Only 5% of the medical college seats are filled through this route. The rest come through traditional route. SO, pick some back ups and dont get worked up if you dont get interviews or dont get in.

As you can see, we had backups for engineering. Doing Mechanical engg would have killed our goal of being an MD. However, even after trying so much if we did not get, then we will have to accept the fact that this was not meant for us. So, we were prepared to go into engineering, get the professional license and settle down.

Some of you might like pshycology, business, finance etc. Apply for that back up and save yourself the stress of this BS MD. If you get in great, if not, no big deal.

Wish you all the best!
