BU or BC?

I was accepted into both Boston University and Boston College. I want to double major in communications and marketing. Which communications program is better? Where would you go and why?

Wonderful. We both have the same question.

Anyone willing to entertain us with your opinions?

BC is a higher ranked school, however, BU has a really strong communications program.

They’re both really different schools though. Completely different atmospheres—BU is extremely diverse and right in the city while BC is in the suburbs and has little to no diversity. Plus it’s a catholic school.

Personally, I’d pick BU mainly because of the differences I just listed.

The communications school at BU is great, but BC is a wonderful school. As sak09 said, you should choose by what else you want in a school, because the two are VERY different.

BC is in the suburbs (30-45min from downtown Boston) and has a gorgeous campus. It’s also a very active campus. Sports are a big deal, and a big part of the social life. There’s a party scene, too. Basically, it’s your typical college experience. Oh, and the school is religious, but not overly so. It’s Jesuit, so it’s very liberal. There are chapels on campus, but obviously you don’t have to go, and many choose not to. And the school is not very diverse, though I have heard they have been working on it for the past few years, and especially for the class of 2013.

BU is right in the city, and has pretty much no campus. I assume most of the social life happens in the city itself. There’s probably less campus life than at BC, and you have a city college experience (similar to NYU). It’s not religious, and more diverse.

Think about what you want from a college… you’ll be spending the next 4 years there! You need to think of things other than the strength of your major (though that’s definitely something to look at).

Savs…for such an authority on all things BU/BC you really blew the location of BC’s campus. Boston College is in Chestnut Hill, which is exactly 4.3 miles from BU…LESS THAN 10 MINUTES IF DRIVING! They share the same “T” train (the Green Line) because they’re so close. Yikes.

I agree with the others, BU has a great communications dept. BC and BU have very very different campuses, one right in the city vs the traditional college campus with grass and a tower. I can’t imagine anyone having a hard time deciding between the two. Perhaps you like the academics of BU’s communcation program but BC’s campus?

BC has a gorgeous campus, great reputation/prestige, school spirit,

BU is more diverse, more urban-oriented, less prestige but still a good reputation.
