BU or spring admit @ Univ of Maryland

Hey everyone I was hoping you could help me out with this decision since I only have 3 weeks left and my parents are leaving it up to me…

I’m planning on majoring in broadcast journalism and I was accepted at BU’s communications school. I was also accepted at UMD, but for the spring, so if I end up going there, I will probably go to Loyola College in MD for the fall or a community college nearby.

I’m basing my decision on which has the best broadcast program from which I can get connections and have a successful career after college. Anyone and everyone’s opinion is greatly appreciated!!!

I am not in the Comm program but it is highly regarded and Howard Stern is an alumnus--so choose BU.

Because everyone should choose a school based on Howard Stern

Boston U..

i told my mom about the howard stern thing.. she said its a con, and i kinda agree lol.. but any reasons as to why bu is so great?

The Howard Stern comment was said as a joke since who would make a decision based on that or for that matter that MLK was an alumnus. But Stern did graduate from BU Comm. and the rumor is he won't give any money because BU won't erect a statue in his honor.

I got into UMD for the fall but I still picked BU. It really depends on what you're looking for in a college, but COM at BU is really good, and picking Boston will save you the trouble of having to transfer.

cfsdimples- are you happy with your decision? and also, do you feel as though attending the com school will help you when looking for a job?

COM is one of the best schools in BU. Although not very popular either, Bill O'Reilly is an alumnus of COM as well, as are many other successful people in the world of communications. Almost all COM students do internships, and Boston is the 4th or 5th biggest media market in the country. There are definitely lots of opportunities for broadcast journalism majors.

I'm very happy with my decision. I always knew that BU was my second choice though (I didn't get into my first choice), so it wasn't really a hard decision to make. I love city life and I was really impressed when I went on a tour of COM. The whole "campus" thing was never a big deal to me, and BU has everything I want in a school. This might sound stupid, but you should make pro/con lists. It'll help you to be able to visually compare the good and bad points of each school.
