Boston University. You are on the BU forums. When I know about the alternative school, I am able to answer honestly. . . but in this case, I do not. So, enjoy your four years in Boston : )

I applied and was accepted to both. I would have gone to Bard had their Conservatory of Music accepted me, but I was accepted only by the college, so I must go elsewhere. Bard is a very different place from BU. I'd choose it, personally, but BU probably appeals to a broader array of people than does Bard, which is pretty idiosyncratic.

A substantive difference in these two schools vis a vis location and student body. I admire a student that applies to such a range. It tells me you are likely to do well anywhere since you have not limited yourself to a narrow type of college. Bard is extremely liberal and seems to attract a specific type of student that dances to a different beat. You'll find many like that at BU but not exclusively so.

I think the descriptions of some of the dorms at Bard is fascinating. (in a stream on stilts!!!) Still, BU would offer a more ecelectic experience and an urban environment may offer you much more in terms of entertainment and real life learning opportunities. Being able to jump on the T for an art house flick, concert, lecture, art exhibit, or just to walk around or drink coffee at a neighborhood cafe while conversing with friends is worth considering in terms of quality of life. What do you want to study?

dogs: i want to study Psychology

Coincidentally, that is my field, although I practice it now in a corporate setting. As you may know, graduate school is required. You'll need a Masters or Ph.D. to get licensed as any type of mental health professional.

I think BU's affiliation with their health care system will offer you better opportunites for internships and research projects in Psych. and it looks like there are many outreach volunteer efforts occurring at BU with Boston youth. I am not sure about the school that is on the outskirts of the BU West campus. It may be an alternative school run by BU for special needs kids but I really don't know. Many BU Psych. faculty are well known in the field and have written books and co-authored peer reviewe articles that you see frequently in professional journals.

Still, Bard is an interesting school and quite unique so you can't go wrong with either college. Good luck whatever you choose.

dogs i'm still confused. should it be bard or bu?? whats your opinion

thanks ive sent the enrollment deposit to boston university

WE are pro BU of course since our S is a Freshman there. So most of what I was saying was in favor of BU and pointing out the advantages of Boston as I see it ---as well as based on your interests and questions--- but sorry if it seemed confusing, I guess thats because I also said nice things about Bard too.
