I go to BU, and in general we aren’t very focused on computer engineering. Its not a bad program - but I know very few people in the College of Engineering who are Computer Engineers. In general, the program is dominated by Biomedical Engineers and mechanical engineers with a little bit of electrical engineers. That isn’t to say that our Computer Engineering program is bad - just that people are really focused as much on it. At least that is from what I can tell…

Its not worth transferring - if you are already at RPI - stay there. I don’t know how good the computer engineering program is, but it is a great school in general, so I doubt there will be a lot of problems. Why transfer and change environments when you can stay!

Okay, so I’m going to RPI (I didn’t really apply to BU). However, for some reason I have this gut feeling that I wouldn’t like the school because they don’t have individual guidance counselors, Japanese classes, etc.

Which has a better program for:
Computer/Electrical Engineering (Haven’t decided which one yet)
Business/Management

My girlfriend is also going to Boston University and she keeps telling me how awesome the area and the school are and they make me want to go there even more. Is it worth it at all to transfer? Thanks for any opinions, suggestions, or ideas.

I mean which program is better and by how much? If BU has a better program for EE at all I think I’d consider transferring, I read on yahoo answers and some other places that BU is more well known and respected jobwise.

BU is a great school - but don’t go here just because “your girlfriend says its great”.

Have you even started RPI? Have you even given it a chance? Why did you apply? Why did you pick it? It seems to me you are just nervous right now about not liking the school. I think you are going to love it. RPI is well respected and on par with BU in many aspects.

Is it better or worse for engineering? Like Computer/Electrical/Business? I’m just really overthinking it, I just read RPI doesn’t offer one-to-one guidance counselors and I really need one to decide between my prospective majors.

I mean, I loved RPI while I was there but I just kept second guessing myself and disliking the school when I was back home. I applied because I heard it was a good school and it seems like it’s fun. I would rather go to school in a city like Boston, and I have a group of friends going to BU as well so I’m not sure. I don’t want to go to RPI expecting it to be bad, but I can’t really help it right now.

I’m pretty sure you’ve got something mixed up. I toured RPI a month ago and I’m pretty sure my info session dude said everyone gets an academic adviser that you meet with often.

Question was answered a long time ago. Im sure he went to RPI and loved it - though I personally don’t appreciate the ripping on BU. A school is what you make of it and how much you can grow. I don’t doubt that the academics are better at RPI - though RPI is supposed to be on par with BU, WPI…etc.

a school def is what you make of it…and i’m sure you’d find people from BU and WPI that make more of their education than someone at RPI…but as a whole, RPI is just in a higher league than BU and WPI in terms of student profiles…just like MIT is higher up than RPI…at the very high end, there’s Caltech…

Well I will admit that I do love RPI, but I went to Boston (MIT) for a Tae Kwon Do tournament and I did think the city was pretty cool, however I suppose college is more for the education, and the malls nearby and in Albany + all the activities and weekend parties keep me more than busy enough, I just regoogled this topic out of curiosity, but thanks a lot everyone ^.^
