I will be a Freshman at UF next year and wanted to live at Buckman or Thomas hall, can anyone give me an idea if that would be a good idea?

Buckman was one of the first of two buildings built at U of F. Its carved up into 2 wings on each floor (left & right) of the stairs. About 4 to 6 rooms in each wing. Shared bath on each floor, kitchen on 2nd floor. It has not be redone in some time, but I’m sure its slated to be done as the other old dorms in the area have been. You will definitely need a floor standing AC unit.

That said its located in what I think is the most beautiful part of campus. Its close to the stadium, univeristy ave (main drag), several main classroom buildings, etc. One of the main campus bus stops is just a block away. It has a wonderful court yard behind it (if you are facing to the west).

Easy to move into as there is just a little freshman madness and no elevators queuing

Thanks. I’m not sure if you can answer this but when it comes time to actually choose the rooms we want to live in will we actually get to see like an outline of the hall or something. I just wanted to find a room that had a window?

Today when I signed up for summer B they had a link with the floor plan and room #

Murphree section E…if you change the E at the end of the link you can view the different sections.

Also, You can change the building number 2 in the Thomas link…3 is Sledd, 4 fletcher, 5 Buckman…I just can’t figure out how to see any other flor than the first this way

Good Luck

I believe all the rooms have windows, would think thats required by fire code. Some of the rooms have big bay windows, which adds add’l square footage, but these are typically doubles. I went online the minute I was allowed to pick and not one room was avaialbe in the freshman dorms. Might have been my priority being from out of state, but it worked out for the better. Good luck.
