I know that it might be a little early to be worried about this (I’m a junior) but I have been freaking out because I LOVE Bucknell University but I don’t think I can get in. If anyone was accepted to Bucknell, can u please tell me your scores? I just want to know if it is worth all of the effort I plan on putting into trying to get accepted. My gpa is a 3.5 (unweighted), but I think the average gpa there is around a 3.54. I got my scores back from my first ACT and got a 28. I really want to get a 30 but as of now it’s not looking too good. I am the president of a club and a member of another, I student teach for a class of 3rd graders at religious school once a week, I take art classes outside of school, and I will be taking workshops at NYU in the spring. Does anyone have any advice on how I can improve my chances for admission in the next year? And also- I want to apply to the business school, which is harder to get into then all of the other schools
I don’t know about Bucknell and the average GPA or ACT, but you can find out where you stand by using Naviance, Cappex, PrepScholar, etc. From what I can tell, your GPA is a little weak, though. I can tell you used PrepScholar for the number you found, but I would certainly try to improve yours, considering that it helps to be above the average for people applying (and it will expand your options of schools).
You have plenty of time to improve your ACT, and I would suggest studying for it before you take it again (there is no reason why it shouldn’t look too good – going up 2 points is very feasible if you study).
In your time left, I would suggest working your hardest to improve your GPA (focus on your schoolwork, and if the NYU workshop is during school, I would not do that). Continue to build your EC’s – look into starting a club at your school or joining some more, and also get some service hours if YOU actually want to do service.
Your chances of getting in at this point are hard to say. I would think that it is a reasonable goal, but continue building your stats. DO NOT get set on attending Bucknell already. There are many similar schools that can offer you great opportunities, so don’t get your hopes up only to be denied – with college admissions, you never know.
Also, if you want to apply for business and are afraid that you won’t get into that program, definitely do not apply for a different major that you don’t like as much. Apply for what you want and not for the school.
What does your transcript look like? What kind of classes are you taking?
my school does not offer AP classes, and it is very challenging to qualify for honors classes. For all of high school, I have pretty much been in all regular level classes, and I am in advanced English. I am also taking a college level art class next year.
It’s too early to tell. Continue to do well in your classes and try to move into some higher level ones for next year. You will have a good chance at being accepted then.
Keep up your tough schedule and grades, try to get your ACT up to your goal of 30 and apply early decision (if you don’t need to shop for the best financial package). My son is a freshman in the Biz School, loves it (home on break this week).
@pardullet may I ask what his gpa and ACT score looked like?
3.67, 32act, but didn’t get 32 until 3rd try:
29, 28, 32. He just used the real act book practice tests. Best of luck!
I was recently accepted, didn’t expect it at all.
29 ACT, 3.77 W GPA, very active in clubs, 300+ community service hours, part-time job, and 3 previous internships that align with my major (Management).
Not only were my scores low, but I was admitted into a very difficult program. Focus on extracurriculars. Know plenty of student rejected with 34 ACT+ because academics was their only strong suit.
