Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette - any diff?

Is there any real diff b/w the three ? I know Bucknell’s more conservative, Lehigh has the largest enrollment and Lafayette has the smallest. And all three schools seem about the same academically and socially (I know Bucknell has a larger female enrollment, a plus for my D who doesn’t want to be iadrift n a sea of guys).

But aren’t these distinctions w/o a difference - - or is there something I’m missing?

From my personal experience from going to visit all 3...

First of all I didn't like Lafayette at all because it was way too small for me, plus the campus seemed way too quiet. On the plus side, Lafayette had a cute little town.

Lehigh was okay, starting to get kind of run down, the rooms itself was very dark and the whole campus was built on a hill. Like you could walk in on the first floor on the lower side, go up 2 flights of steps, then walk out a door onto ground level. That would be quiet the work out everyday, especially in the snow.

Bucknell was by far my favorite. I loved everything about the campus and the school itself except for the town. The town was definitely lacking in what I look for in a college community. I know Bucknell supposively offers a lot to do on campus, making up for the lack of activities off campus.

I would say academically they're all in the same caliber. With Lafayette being more focused Liberal Arts wise, with Lehigh and Bucknell having a very good engineering program. So your daughter would need to decide which school she feels more comfortable at and what better suits her wants. Also how big the school is and what kind of surrounding area it has.

Out of the three, I only applied to Bucknell and was unfortunately waitlisted. If you have any more questions you can private message me.

I also visited all three and obviously Bucknell was my favorite. Lafayette and Lehigh were in run down, "shady" towns while Lewisburg is really nice. I thought the campus at Lehigh was really pretty (in terms of all the flowers and stuff) but maybe that's because it was summer. Also, the hills at Lehigh are horrible..I can't imagine they would be very good in the ice. Lafayette seemed too dead, there wasn't enough going on. My family and I walked around campus for a while by ourselves and we never saw anyone...

They are all good schools, though, and I think you could get a good education at any of them (in engineering anyway, that's all I've looked at)....Several people have told me that Bucknell is better than the other two...

Basically, I think when you're choosing a college, especially out of a group as similar as these three, you should look more at the environment...you're going to have to live there for four years...

Thanks, I agree. I checked the Lehigh thread - - not the environment I want for my daughter !!

As for Bucknell, I am troubled by the fact that the student body is often described as "conservative."

bwahahaha not ALL of them. This weekend they are having a big democratic student convention at Bucknell. My son is hosting three people in his room! There are plenty of those that are less conservative. Everyone gets along.
