Bucknell vs. William and Mary

I am making my decision between Bucknell and William and Mary. I am interested in theater, english, creative writing, dance, and study abroad. Any thoughts?

I’m a theater major at Bucknell and I LOVE it. The department is truly fantastic and excited to find new members. Because we aren’t competing with graduate students, there are so many opportunities. Although I am majoring, you absolutely do not have to major to be involved. There are students from all majors in every production and there are not “reserved” parts for those who are majoring. Within weeks of being on campus, I knew all the professors in the department and I already felt like I was part of the family. In addition to three mainstage productions each year, there are several student productions and clubs to get involved in, including an improv group (We Break for Nobody) and the Musical Theatre Club.

I don’t know much about William and Mary, but I know I have had the greatest year of my life at Bucknell! Good luck making your decision - I hope this helps!

My D also applied to and was accepted to Bucknell and W&M (among others). We are something of a W&M family - her mother and I are alums and her brother is a junior there now, my sister and her husband (her aunt and uncle) are alums and live in Williamsburg. She’s been visiting W&M all her life - she attended the unveiling of the Lord Bot statue in front of the Wren Building in 1993 when she was two years old. She loves William & Mary. But, she will not be going to W&M. She wants to study engineering and all W&M has is an almost forgotten 3-2 program. Bucknell’s engineering is among the best. Actually, she still has to decide between Bucknell and U. of Delaware, our in-state, bargain option.

They are both great schools and both are great in the areas in which you are interested. The campuses are both beautiful and the college communities are inviting and vibrant. Bucknell is a bit short in the diversity area - W&M can offer a little more cultural/racial/ethnic/geographic/socioeconomic diversity, although that is an area it is trying to improve as well. You can’t go wrong with either one.

What are your pros and cons for each?
