I am making my decision between Bucknell and William and Mary. I am interested in theater, english, creative writing, dance, and study abroad. Any thoughts?

Both are great schools and both are strong in the areas in which you are interested. My D has also been accepted at both W&M and Bucknell (among others). Her mother and I are W&M alums, her brother is a junior at W&M, my sister (her aunt) and her husband are both W&M alums who live in Williamsburg. She has been visiting the Colllege all her life and loves it. But, her choice between the two is . . . Bucknell.

She wants to major in engineering, so W&M is not really an option. If W&M had engineering, it would be her choice, but, absent that, Bucknell is really, really close and it has a great engineering program. Her decision is actually down to Bucknell (her preferred choice) vs. University of Delaware (our in-state, bargain option). We are willing to take on the extra cost and make the sacrifices for her to go to Bucknell. We would also be happy to see her go to UD - it is a good school with a good engineering program and a really, really great bargain.

Aside from the cost of Bucknell, the one thing that concerns us somewhat is the limited diversity of the student body. William & Mary is better in that regard, although, it, too, is not higher education’s best example in this regard.

I have loved William & Mary since I was 12 and had a great four years there and my son is enjoying his experience. But, Bucknell appears that it will be a great experience for my daughter. You’ll have a great experience at either one!
