Local News | Budget cuts means fewer Wash. students get into UW | Seattle Times Newspaper

This double confirms this:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-washington/472593-uw-acceptance-rate.html

is this the same for transfers?

If your parents didn’t vote yes on I-1098 and the other tax bills, don’t ***** about it.

This has been happening to state universities across the US. It finally really ‘hit’ Washington.

Taxpayers don’t want to pick up the tab a bit, less money in the budget, less funding for university, the university hurts, we can accept less in state students while tuition goes up… etc.

From the ASUW president in an email yesterday:

"On Monday myself and several other students testified in Olympia at the House Ways & Means Committee on the proposed budget for 2011-2013. This budget recommends significant funding reductions for UW, tuition hikes, and cuts to financial aid, including:
A $482 million cut to public higher education, $204 million to come from UW. This represents a 32% cut in state funding to UW.

Annual tuition increases of 13% over the next two years for resident undergraduates.
Complete suspension of the Work Study program. …"

and it goes on.
