Since there isn't a thread for the Buick Achievers scholarship, I decided to make one. :)

A few questions:

For "Other Grants and Scholarships", do we include the merit scholarships we got from other universities, even if that is not our first choice? For example, I got a full tuition from "X" university (for privacy purposes) but that's not my first choice, so should I still include that?

What are our chances? (Approx. how many apply and how many get picked?)

Any useful tips/advice from those who have been awarded this scholarship?

1) I didn’t include any of that if that wasn’t specific to the school I listed as first choice. My first choice didn’t award me money so I left it blank. If you earned scholarships outside of the school from programs. Put it there.
2) I applied too! I can’t really answer this!
3) :X

How much of this is based on financial aid? I am by no means poor but my FAFSA generated EFC is <20k (a few thousand higher when the schools computed it w/CSS info). I don’t think I’ll be eligible for the $25,000; I honestly don’t need that much; but $2000 would go a long way.

Is this scholarship really only for kids in dire financial situations, or is the financial info just to make sure these kids actually need scholarship money (regardless of how much)?

(For reference, the school I listed as my probable school is $59k for tuition, room and board, so there’s definitely need)

It sure did just pass, but since I submitted in the middle of January, I was just wondering if they might have started looking over applications…lol

If the process is anything like the other scholarships that Scholarship America manages, which it should be, they won’t be asking for a transcript until you’ve been named a semifinalist/finalist. Then they’ll have a new deadline to send in the info.

Can someone verify this for me: the awards are 100 $25,000 scholarships renewable for 4 years, and there are 1000 $2000 one-time awards? I was under the impression the $2000 was renewable for 4 years but that doesn’t seem the case.

I also applied too! yeah, it did seem like they would give you the $2,000 all four years, but unfortunately no, just one year. Does anyone here fit any of the “special consecration” as in female, minority, military/dependents, or first generation college? Cause I qualify for all of them.

No…I’m a white, middle-class male. My parents both went to college. I am smart and lower middle class, so I do have a lot of need!! I kind of applied just as a “Well…I’ll give it a try” kind of thing.

I meet two of the special requirements - female and first generation. My dad was in the military, so I should qualify for that one too, but apparently only current dependents are eligible… Ugh.

How many people did the optional essay about special circumstances?

Nope, The first 5 should know by next week…then the first week of April we’ll know who they are.

A weekish later non-recipients & $2,000 recipients all will be notified by email.

Then the last 95, $25,000 recipients will be notified between 17th-28th by mail.
Those who are the lucky 100, will have to send thier transcripts & tax info to which they’ll have to wait till late May/ early June to be notified
If they ACTUALLY won the scholarship. If the documents do not match, if you do not turn in your documents on time, or they change thier minds. You will be dropped to a $2,000 recipient or get nothing.
