BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP 2015

@sciencesolver321 I am going to attend Berkeley for its EECS program. I don’t have that much financial need, but as a result, college costs are all on my family. I was hoping merit would be the primary factor of awarding the scholarship…

Should I let them know if I changed my college from the one that I listed on the application?

@QwertyuiopPro I was wondering that too! I put Cal Poly SLO on my application but I’m going somewhere else. It seems like it might be too late to let them know now though… What college are you changing it to?

@alleycat2 Most likely UCSD for CS, although if I get the scholarship, it might make University of Michigan as an OOS possible, but probably UCSD.

If we do get the scholarship, hopefully it doesn’t matter as long as it is an acceptable major.

What about you?

I think you’re alright as long as the major is an acceptable one, and your financial need is around the same.

While the academic achievers part is big for awarding, I think financial need plays a fairly large role since they do state on the website that they award to students who may not be able to attend without financial assistance.

I looked at Buick’s newsfeed and haven’t found anything about any scholarships being awarded for 2015 yet, so it is very possible that no decisions have been made.

I called Buick and all they told me was that everyone will be notified by the ‘end of April’ :frowning:

I wonder why previous years were notified earlier. This scholarship determines whether or not I should pay the deposit fee for the school i want to go to since I can’t afford it without this scholarship - and May 1st is the deadline.

It all depends on the amount of applicants is my guess. Previous years have been notified on the 26th and 27th.

Here is my question:
I put on my application that I was planning on going to Notre Dame (aka an expensive school). But now, I would go to the less expensive Michigan State if I recieved the scholarship. If I were to be named a provisional recipient, would they remove my scholarship?

I don’t think so, but they will only give you up to the amount you need.

I applied! Studying petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines. Just a question…is this scholarship mainly for minorities? Or is that just another factor with a higher chance ? Thanks and good luck to you all (:

I applied as well, I plan on going to Georgia Tech.

Woooo! Good luck!!

@BostonCA I believe being a minority does enhance your chances, but is not a requirement.

Looks like notifications have gone out. A friend got an email 45 minutes ago. Huge congrats to all the scholarship recipients!

@CourtneyThurston Did you get one as well? I haven’t received anything either way.

Is it in batches ?

Are you sure the emails have gone out I have not gotten anything yet. Did your friend get accepted or declined?

She was named a winner. As far as I know, notifications aren’t going out in batches. Typically non-selected students hear a few days or even a week after winners are notified, so I’m gonna go ahead and assume I wasn’t selected.

That’s not true @CourtneyThurston if you look at last years thread the first person to find out was actually not a recipient
