AmazinglyGrace, without giving away any personal info, can you briefly state what income amount you put in the application and what factors you believe contributed to you getting selected? If you could share the general information with the rest of us here hoping for it in the future, that would be very helpful and surely appreciated. Thank you!

Sure thing @danielvs. Seriously, I was surprised to get the Buick notification because I thought I didn’t fit the “criteria.” For example, my parents make about 100k, which is way above whatever threshold people were throwing around earlier in this thread. So I wouldn’t believe that this is just a scholarship for low income students
I guess the things that led me to get the notif were party my GPA and test scores (4.74 W, 4.0 UW, 2370) but also my passion for STEM that I poured into my application essays. I also had a ton of STEM related leadership (science and math team captainships and founder a girls coding club), as well as non-stem (founder of a non-profit, theater, etc)
So, yeah, I don’t really think they are looking for a specific type of person. They really just want people who will make them look good, so if you can do that you’re golden.

I heard back 3 days ago after being declared a provisional winner, it reads as:
"We have received your paperwork for the 2016 Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. The information you submitted on your application has been validated by your transcript and 1040 tax return. Congratulations, you are now confirmed as a National recipient of the Buick Achievers Scholarship!
An official notification letter will be sent to your home address with details about your scholarship in June. This letter will include the determined award amount for your scholarship based on school costs and other awards reported on your application."
