So back in the first wave of acceptances, I found out that I got the Dean's scholarship, which I was kind of disappointed with because I wouldn't be eligible to interview for the Presidential or Trustee scholarships.

But then I got a letter on Friday telling me that I was awarded the Presidential scholarship, even though I didn't even interview... Has this happened to anyone else? I don't think it was because of national merit because the deadline for designating a college is in May or something.

Yeah, I am… but the letter didn’t mention anything about national merit, and isn’t there still time to switch colleges for national merit???

First: CONGRATULATIONS on your Presidential scholarship!

Yes, there is still time to designate your first-choice college. In the meantime, the NM people send out lists of NMF to universities, so USC has been informed that you qualify for the NM Presidential scholarship. Great news!!! It will include an extra $1,000 from NM, so it is a bit better than the “regular” Presidential.

Handlebars,
…just an added note.

That $1,000 is from the NMSFoundation and will be given to you each year as long as you maintain the required GPA and units.
You will also be eligible for the Associated Trustees and Presidential Scholars. These students are brought together for academic, social and cultural events. One special event is lunch with the President of USC.
Best wishes.

Handlebars…would be great to know if this is NM related. There are a few CC posts from students who got Dean’s who would love to know if there is hope for them to get bumped up…can you call and find out if this is strictly NM related and post to let us all know? WOW…nice to see the good news on this!
