Burpees

Oh my…now I’m feeling guilty…they have the Basics doing Burpees on the Obstacle course…check out video #1 today…oh my. I may burn in hell for suggesting this.

Can't do "grenades" so they just changed the name (and the exercise a bit). Serves permanent party right lol.

What's a "grenade"

A grenade is the same thing you might see football players do before a game or during practice. Essentially it is a updown, you stand upright and keep your feet moving, then on command fall to your face in the down pushup position and after your chest has hit the ground you get back up as fast as possible and continue chopping your feet, therefore restarting the process. :) What makes/made this hard is that you would usually have a "rubber duckie", fake m-16 in your hands while doing the "grenade/grenades"..:).

so is a burpee exactly the same?

A burpee...you stand and then squat down then kick your legs out into the pushup position...do the pushup...jump your feet back to your hands and jump up in the air and repeat.

Looks like they are doing that because they aren't just standing after the pushup but jumping in the air. It's a plyometric exercise and really gets your heart going... I do them in sequence...after about 5+ you really feel it. But they seem to be doing them in addition to other things in between obstacles that are probably already pretty demanding so I'm guessing they are being pushed pretty hard.

They are having them do it on the obstacle course? I remember the obstacle course being a joke because it was so easy. I thought it was only during the assault course that we had to do grenades.

Where can I access video #1?

I meant webguy's Obstacle # 1 video from today 7-16-2008 at least on the free version.

actually, the obstacle course "walk-through" one before you run it for time, i thought was worse than the assault course. not only are you running the entire course and doing high-knees while waiting for an obstacle after you run to it, but you do grenades (or burpees), push-ups, really anything. It was one of the most physically demanding things we did.

as for the obstacle course at enlisted BMT (Basic Military Training), the obstacle course was long but you only jogged in place while you waited for obstacles and there was not nearly as much yelling (other cadets and i ran it today with 3 flights of trainees who are in Warrior Week at BMT)

I noticed a guy yesterday in one of the videos in woodlands...I assume it was a cadre member doing one of the obstacles with a basic in the parallel obstacle (upside down rope pull yourself across the pond). If it was a Basic...wondering why he was in woodlands.

He was a cadre. Many cadre ran the course with their basics. I saw plenty while I worked at the O-course today.

hornetguy -- have you seen benjo6 lately? wondering what he's doing in Jack's. Thanks.

I saw him yesterday actually. Only briefly though. It looks like he and the other Cobras cadre are doing a great job!

I think Cadre are even yelling out "Burpees" in the first video of today 7-17-2008. Obstacle course Barbarians.
