Bus. Finance vs. Business accounting vs. Econ

Hello,

I am attending a CSU. I will graduate in late 2011 or early 2012...I am down to the cusp and need to make a decision fast on a major.

My options are:

1) B.S. in Business Administration with Finance Concentration *(AACSB Accredited)
2) B.S. in Business Administration with Accounting Concentration *(AACSB Accredited)
3) B.S. in Economics with Accounting and Bank Lending Concentration
4) B.S. in Economics with Financial Investment Services
5) B.S. in Economics with Public Policy & Administration Concentration

My goal:

To obtain employment within 0-4 months of obtaining college degree. To gain a starting pay of at least $45,000 with the potential to make six figures or more within 0-10 years. To obtain employment in a stable or secure sector.

Please list the options in order with first place being the best. State why you listed them in that order. I believe this thread will help not only me, but many others for it is a broad and common question that deals with Econ vs. Bus. Admin as well as Accounting vs. Finance, so please be realistic and detailed, facts and/or figures help!

I can’t list them in order because I think you could definitely fulfill your goal with all of those majors! I would lean towards the business ones because I think they have more real world application than all of the “big picture” stuff you have to learn with economics. But if Econ is your thing you can make that work too. My personal preference would be Business with Finance. I just like stocks and think it would be cool to advice people on investment strategies and things of that nature. But accounting is really useful too. As an accountant, there is ALWAYS work out there. Just do a job search and everybody and their mother is looking for an accountant. Usually accountants get payed around 50k. The reason I lean towards finance though is that’s just my personal interest. I find accounting and crunching numbers all day to be a little boring, but to each his own!
