BU's SMG - Grade deflation?

Hi

I go to BU as SMG student for the upcoming fall semester of 2011

and I was terrified when I heard BU is one of the toughest schools in east in GPA- wise

Is it that hard to get above 3.7 in BU???

Isn't it cuz ppl in BU don't study???

Just work hard and study… You’ll do fine…

I am a sophomore in BU SMG and I can confirm that the grade deflation for our school is less than all the other colleges. When you compare the average time that students spend studying at BU to a comparable other school, I am sure it is the same so that should not be a factor. BU follows grade deflation to ensure that too many students are not getting A/A-'s by keeping the median and majority at B. Most other colleges grade by pure merit, but BU does not. The median GPA for a BU SMG grad is about 3.04 or something, so keep this in mind.

Obviously there are exceptions and I know several people with relatively high gpas in the 3.7-3.9 range, but the number of 3.0-3.5’s is much, much greater.

I actually meant that SMG experiences a bit less grade deflation than CAS, ENG, but it is still very obvious.
