Bus transportation

Does anybody have experience using bus transportation from Amherst to other major cities in southern New England, such as Providence or Hartford? Wondering about the safety and convenience of that mode of travel.

My D takes the bus to NYC all the time from Amherst and it’s the fastest way to go, except car. To the airport in Hartford, she takes the shuttle which is a lot more $ but the buses are a pain for that.

You know that Amherst has Peter Pan and also Megabus right?

Peter Pan yes, but I hadn’t heard of Megabus. Will check it out. Actually after googling “hartford airport shuttle to amherst” I found this very helpful link meant for international students at Amherst College:

https://www.amherst.edu/campuslife/deanstudents/international/new_international_students/new_language_assistants/travel_and_arrival_information_for_language_assistants_international_students/ground_transportation_from_airports_to_amherst

D says the Peter Pan bus to NYC is basically students as the only stops the direct one makes are to the 5 colleges. I have no safety concerns.

Megabus doesn’t have a great schedule to NYC but might work well for other NE cities. It’s by far the cheapest if you buy very early.

Peter Pan is the safest and most affordable option. I (a current UMass student) took it to providence with no issue, and in fact it has 2 providence stops! I have also taken it to NYC. I took the shuttle to the airport in Hartford. When going to and from airports and train stations I recommend Valley Transporter, if not I recommend Peter Pan.
