Busch campus?

Hey, im an incoming freshman and not sure of which campus to live on. I know that you get to pick sorta, so what do you think of Busch? My friend lives on college ave and tells me that Busch is sorta the asian science major campus. Im kinda both so any input? I don't wanna just go there based as a stereotype but is the majority of that campus really asian, not that that matters to me, just wondering. also, anybody that's lived there, how'd u like it?

Yeah, there are A LOT of Asians on this campus and a lot of science majors. Not that this should matter. There are other types of ethnic groups here also, but it is predominately Asian.

But anyway, I think Busch is a great campus to live on. I'm currently living on Busch and I like it. I don't know what you want to know specifically, haha, so I guess I'll just end it with "I like it".

Most people enjoy it, except living in davidson for the most part. if you do a forum check, opinions on busch have been exchanged all over the place.

Pros of Busch
- if you like asians/indians this is the campus for you
- Busch dining hall's food is not that bad
- Very easy to go to and from college avenue (H and A bus)
- Many school events are held in the busch campus center

Cons of Busch
- BAMM and Davidson are ***ty dorms in my opinion.
- Very long trip coming back from Livingston and *very
difficult to travel to cook/douglass (>1 hour bus ride with traffic sometimes)
- Busch dining hall is very crowded and the food gets old after a while
- Ugliest campus (livingston will be nice once construction is done)

All in all, I just don't believe it's a great place for first-years...unless you're asian or indian. All my asian and indian friends love it. This may be because most of the asian/indian clubs and organizations meet on busch.

well I'm asian and going into pharmacy so I was thinking of going to Busch as well but some of those cons make me feel uncertain. 1 hr+ commute to Cook/douglass and livingston?!? thats a lot.

What are the good dorms on Busch?

First of all, I'd like to point out some incorrect statements in colboy's post.

1) Depending on where you get on the bus in livingston, the bus ride will take 40 minutes at most, or 15 minutes. To take 15 minutes, you have to get off the bus a bit earlier and walk 5 minutes to your dorms. Its not that big of a deal.
2) Its hard to get to cook/douglass from any campus. It takes an hour to get there from livingston as well. College ave is different, but from my experience its sometimes faster to go to college ave and then to cook/douglass
3) BAMM is one of the better dorms, IMO. There's good community and the dorms themselves are nice and air conditioned.

As a first year pharmacy student, it doesn't matter where you live (though I would avoid c/d) Most of your classes will be on livingston and busch though.

Lurker, I'm not saying the things I've said are deal-breakers. These are simply the cons of Busch.

It's still not that easy coming back from Livingston. And saving 10-15 minutes just to walk in the rain or cold is not pleasant either. But if you don't mind it, that's fine.
And, walking from BAMM to the REXB bus stops are very much a pain. It's a little longer than Livingston's REXL and less convenient. And it's not easy to estimate the college ave/douglass trip time either.
Whenever I go to my friend's dorms, I really do envy their room. For example, some have shelves for your books (which I would really like) and others have windows that open outward (so when it rains it doesnt your room doesn't get wet).

Oh, and another thing. Weekend buses are somewhat annoying for Busch. Because of the way the buses are set up, there's no fastest way to get back from your dorm from college ave. In other words, very long bus rides.
But, hey, if you're an asian in pharmacy, you'll be right at home here - lots of asian/pharmacy meetings.

Just defending Busch a bit =). If you want ease of transportation, college ave is the best place to live. Other than that, I think Livingston and Busch are on (generally) equal footing. Its a simple matter of walking to Buell, taking the H, getting off at ARC or Hill and taking the RexB. The major con of Livingston is the construction right now, but it should be gorgeous by the time its done ... which will hopefully be the fall when you guys get here.

Got a quick question about Busch...don't think it would warrant another thread though since this one is already open...

Would it be convenient for an incoming business student to live on Busch? If not, what would one would be the best to live on? I'm speaking in terms of how close classes would be...

My roommate is a business major (I live on Busch). If I'm not mistaken, isn't the business school located on Livingston (which is like a 5 minute ride from Busch Campus Center)???

Sometimes you can't be too certain about where your classes will be for the first semester as first-year since you cannot choose the specific campus, teacher, or time.

I can relate to this. I was a business school student last semester. And yes, the Janice Levin Building is located on Livingston. Typically, freshman business majors take a few biz courses (computer apps, stats for biz, etc.), and they are usually on Livingston. I took microeconomics in Livingston last semester and that was terrible bus experience.

Indeed, it is a 5 minute ride to Livingston from the Busch Campus Center, technically. However, because you will probably be taking a lecture hall class, the buses will get very crowded. You can bet on the bus being too crowded to even get on and having to wait for the next one. (This happens in many places at Rutgers but I remember this specifically because it was the first time it happened to me).

And coming back from Livingston, as I mentioned above, is a HUGE pain in the ass. In addition, most of the business clubs hold their meetings on Livingston. I have horrible memories of waiting for the bus in Livingston after coming back from a meeting. After 9:30 (almost all clubs at rutgers end their meetings after 10pm), the bus between Busch and Livingston comes every 30 minutes. Imagine waiting outside 30 minutes just to have to wait another 40 on the bus to get back to your dorm.

Yeah crowded buses suck. And the "B" bus does tend to get really crowded. People become like beasts trying to fight their way before you. Then once you actually get on, you're stuck between a kid with a bookbag in your face, another one talking on the phone loudly, and another who's breathing down your neck. You can't hold on to the railings, so you figure since you are being surrounded by people, they can be your "wall" and prevent you from falling down anyway when the bus is moving. And then when you get to your stop, people don't want to get off to let you off because they fear they will lose their spot on the bus. Arghh!!! It's madness!

I find the buses are most crowded (especially the "B" and the "A") around the afternoon between 12 and 5, I'd say. So I advise anyone who is attending Rutgers next year or currently, always allow yourself time before heading to class when taking the bus. There are moments where I had to wait for 2-3 buses to pass by because they were crowded and wasn't allowed on.

I have to relate to you on the whole "waiting another 40 minutes". It SUCKS. Nothing is worse than standing outside at 10:20pm on Livingston waiting for the bus in 20 minutes. Even worse is when the bus decides that the Livingston Center is the last stop, thus forcing you to stand outside near the student center waiting another 20 or so minutes for the next B bus.

i am planning on applying to live on Busch. i am a white male pharmacy student. Do you think this is a good choice?

Why would it be a bad choice? I think it's a great choice. People are taking this Asian thing so seriously, lol. There are a lot of Caucasian science majors here if that is what you're implying jaglipean.

yeah the whole asian thing isn't really a big deal. there are white and other non-asian people on busch. it's a fine choice jaglipean.

ok
honestly it doesnt take 40 minutes from Busch to Livingston. Stop exaggerating the times. Yes the buses get crowded but there are certain tricks you can use. instead of waiting at Beck Hall, walk over to the Health Center which is the last stop on Livingston going to Busch. If you are going to busch get off at Werblin and walk to the H stop at Werblin… There is always a B bus waiting at Busch Campus Center & if it not there it will be there in two minutes. I rode on the B, last semester and didn’t have trouble getting to Busch. My class would end at 1:20 and I would on Busch at around 1:40-45 max, plus I had work at 2 and I was never late and in between I had time to get a bite. Plus if you feel that it takes 40 minutes (which it never does) to get to Busch, you can walk in 20 minutes to Busch if it is really urgent.

it’s not a pleasure having to walk across werblin. especially if it’s raining and the field is muddy. And walking to the health center doesnt work all the time. In fact, it usually backfires. Because the B bus gets so crowded, the bus driver usually drives right past the Health Center while you stand there. You’ve just wasted 10 extra minutes.

I also found out interesting news. Apparently the REX L bus is going to stop there.

is there really a big difference in the amount of parties that go on in college ave and busch campuses?

Do the McCormick suites have the microfridges? It doesn’t say in the housing info.
