So i ended up getting into cal poly slo and UCD by some odd chance and I’m looking for some opinions on both schools. I was really lucky to get into both, but now I’m having a hard time deciding where to go. I got into SLO under business administration and pre-managerial econ at davis. I’ve visited SLO once before and didnt exactly fall in love with the campus. I plan to visit Davis over spring break. So yea, any information is appreciated guys. Thanks.

Just curious, what part of the Cal Poly campus visit you didn’t like?

i think it was because the campus seemed kind of beat up and it was so hilly. its not that i disliked it, but it wasnt one of the prettier campuses ive seen, in my opinion.

Cal Poly SLO is definitely more prestigious than UCD. Go with prestige, it matters in the real world mate.

I am a business man and I would be wary of choosing a business school based on the beauty of the campus alone. Look for employment rates and average salaries upon graduation. Average pay for the business school straight out of undergrad is $52,000 not bad for the worst recession in living memory.

I pulled this from the web site: “Our graduates are in high demand in the job market, with 56 percent reporting job offers before graduation. Within three months of graduation, 82 percent had jobs, and 9 months after graduation, 97 percent of graduates had jobs. Of those reporting, 90 percent found jobs in their related field of study. Hundreds of firms recruit and employ Cal Poly graduates each year. Depending on the status of the national economy, Cal Poly hosts from 300 to 600 different employers each year through its on-campus recruiting program and job fair events.”

Here is the rest: [Welcome to Cal Poly - Cal Poly](http://www.calpoly.edu/aboutcp.html)

My nephew is going to Rutgers for business. New Brunswick, NJ, talk about a hardscrabble dump of a city to live in for four years. However, it is also one of the best undergraduate business programs in the United States with a history going back to colonial times. His first impression was totally negative. Now it is on the to of his list. Employers do love SLO.

Cal Poly more prestigious than UCD? Ummm, no, unless you are talking about school of architecture or something. Davis has a stellar reputation for smart students, and businesses love hiring them. Not that Poly does not, by the way. That is an excellent choice also. I think the better question to answer is something like this…

Which campus do you like the best?
Do you plan to go to grad school for business after undergrad? if so, an undergrad business degree is not so important, and you’d probably be better off with ag econ at Davis

They are both great schools.

I know lot about Davis because my dad went there and is a big active alum, especially in the Nor Cal business community that hires a lot of UCD grads. I did not apply there because too close to home for me, but I did apply to SLO and like it a lot.

Best of luck, truth is you can’t make a bad choice here, both are great, they are just a little different in size and feel, both have nice college towns too.

@massivepiggery, i’m in the EXACT same situation as you! although i haven’t visited either campus yet this is so difficult…
have you decided?

Tough decision. Both great schools with great reps. Cal Poly is a top Regional University whereas UC Davis is in the top 10 public universities in the country. Any UC is better known around the country. I don’t think many outside of the Western U.S. have heard of Cal Poly. Cal Poly may be more hands on. Davis is a research university. SLO is darling; so is Davis but it also has Sacramento 10 minutes away and San Francisco an hour away. Cal Poly seems a bit quieter… Davis was bustling when we visited. Just some pros and cons for both.
